In-House Competition JLR

Confirmed: Jaguar are going to launch an "Urban Crossover" - for sale Q3 2014. LR are supplying the 4x4 kit.

Watch out Evoke - you may get your arse bitten by a small cat, and the Germans will definitely get their eyes scratched out in that playground of the market.

My industry source last weekend would not go into great detail except to say that:

1: It is definitely happening and 2014 is the sales target year.
2: it will not share the Evoke platform but a new Jaguar platform that is being developed for a smaller J saloon than the current XF.
3: That being an "Urban Crossover" it will have sufficient design differentials not be a direct head-to-head Evoke competitor.

Looks like then it will be based on the BMW 3 Series/MB C-Class small Jaguar rival. There has been much talk about a Jag SUV in the past,, but I don't see the need. Jags & LR's should be sold next to each other at shared dealer facilities in my book, you want a sexy car buy a Jag, you want an awesome off-roarer by a LR. Most peeps do. How would it be if Lzr start making cars? Mind you the Evoque is getting there....... 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

Think your industry source might be being a bit ambitious. Not even the Japs have managed something like this in the time scale you quote.

Having said that, the De Haviland Mosquito was reputedly 3 months from drawing board to production so who knows what could happen!

It is quiet clear from my discussion with friend in the business that both the new small Jaguar saloon, the F type estate and the Cross-Over model have been under development for some time, and with that the Cross-Over targets of sales launch in Q4 2014 and press launch Paris MS that year is not unrealistic.

As a aside, the Jaguar production line in India commenced operations last Friday - initially the old X Types for domestic consumption.

With respect Athelstan (note correct spelling Smile ) your source has a rather clouded view and knowledge!

Your last paragraph confirms it.

Land Rover production of the Freelander 2 commenced last week at the Pune plant. Initially 12 cars a week. These are knock down kits supplied from Halewood. There are no plans to produce the old X type. In fact none of the tooling exists anymore let alone any agreement with Ford to utilise the Mondeo platform as I understand it. If anything it would be the XF and again via kit form. The economics though would not stack up as to being viable at the moment

Whilst it is common knowledge that the XF Estate is under development, my sources say this is in very early stages and the baby Jag has only just been given approval. So therefore it is highly unlikely that a cross over model is under development and certainly will not hit a Q4 2014 introduction. There is though speculation it will happen, which is as it says speculation. Thumbs Up

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Indus Silver

From Auto Express;

Jaguar Land Rover has recovered from the recession in style by posting a record annual profit figure of £1.1bn for the previous financial year.

In isolation the figure is impressive but it’s all the more amazing when you consider that JLR made just £32m in profit last year and actually made a loss of £281m in the first 10 months under their current owners, Tata Motors.

The record profit figures are partly a result of the success of the Jaguar Land Rover brands in China and India where sales have increased by 33% and 61% respectively as their cars have come to symbolize luxury and status. That’s despite the cars in China costing almost twice as much as they do in the UK because of local taxes.

The impressive results have lead to plans for a new Jaguar Land Rover engine plant to be constructed in the UK that could create around 1,000 new jobs.

The future looks set to get even brighter for the British firm too, with JLR boss Dr. Ralf Speth admitting to Auto Express that they have plans for up 40 new models over the next five years. Among them will be the next generation Range Rover, a hybrid XJ, a two-seater Jaguar sports car and an all-new Land Rover Defender.

A Jag crossover will look terrible, like all car manufacturers that come up with a high riding 4x4, because they design them like cars and not high vehicles. Q7, Cayenne, X Series BMW's, etc etc. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
Family's: 2009 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway

Yorkshire - God's County

Two seater Jag is confirmed and more advanced than any of the models our learned friend in Switzerland source understands.

Believe what you want from Auto Express though!!! Laughing

Jag crossover is not on the cards at this moment in time so my sources tell me.

Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame

Well, those financial results are great news. I realise that the brand is now owned out of country etc etc, but it would be terrible to ever see the end of Jaguar or Land Rover as a brand.

I just hope they keep both of them as a prestigious brand and don't dilute the market by having too many models. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.
