2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Santorini Black
problem with towing electrics

I bought a second hand but unused genuine towing electric kit, I already had a new spare control unit.
When my Freelander was serviced at my local independent LR service specialist, I asked them to programme the tow electrics at the same time.
When they programmed it they did not have the correct fuse is stock so they dury-rigged fuse to programme it while one is on order.
When I came to collect it they said there was a error message when programming saying "software incompatibility", It could be nothing or the control unit I had may be faulty but we would not know unit the fuse is in stock and we try it.

The problem I have is when I came to drive it away the car thinks it is towing all the time, the parking sensors don’t work and the engine has lost a lot of low-down acceleration.

We can sort the tow electrics but what is worrying me is the engine characteristics, is that normal that the engine management & power/performance changes when the car thinks its towing.

I have not noticed any power changes when towing, obviously won't accelerate with 1500kg of caravan on the back, but with a bike rack mounted on towball and electric plugged in there's no difference at all

Sounds like the dealer needs to reload it's ecu again Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You'll see on this thread http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic9099.html , that there is a tech bullitin about how the Trailer Module can lose comms with the rest of the system. Which sounds exactly like your case, it was there long enough for the ECU to go into towing mode, but then 'disappeared' before exiting towing mode.

Thanks for the replies, I took the top cover off the engine today and just had a check around, one of the fuel line sensors was not plugged all the way in, clicked it in and the engine is back to normal.
I am surprised it did not show up as an engine management fault on the dash through.
