England

I ordered a car on Tuesday of this week and the dealer produced a document with instructions detailing colour options.
Red will not be available as first indicated
Santorini Black, Bali Blue not available.
Baltic Blue being replaced with Buckingham Blue.
Zermatt silver being replaced with Indus Silver
Stornoway grey being replaced with Jaguar Jupiter grey although it has a different name, can't remember

The cars being produced now are likely from orders weeks ago, possibly before the disaster occured.

I have gone for Silver, basically far fewer colours to chose from at present until they sort themselves out.
I have never had a silver car so a novelty for me.

I imagine the worst affected will be Evoque owners, most of those colours seem to involve Xirilac pigments

Land Rover only have the foillowing colours listed for new orders.

Buckingham Blue
Fuji White
Galway Green
Indus Silver
Ipanema Sand
Orkney Gray
Sumatra Black

For the avoidance of doubt: There IS a worldwide shortage of certain car paint pigment

Google came up with "About 1,260,000 results"

http://tinyurl.com/3bk5h2g

Is this shortage more to do with the fleck in the paint, or a base material?

Jaguar and LR are going back to old colours. I wonder if in years to come this blip will make them more valuable?

Any ideas how long until the new colours are back. I suggest a year maybe? No Santorini, arrrrgh, I won't be buying a new car until it's back. Big Cry 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

XIRALLIC
Putting this bogey man into perspective:

1: Since March 11th Merck has continued to supply Xirallic to the world's car manufacturers from its strategic stock reserves that are located around the globe. In fairness to all customers, supplies naturally have been on a reduced scale.

2: Since May 8th Merck's production plant in Japan has gradually come back on stream and orders shipped to its customers. Full production levels are expected to be back online by early June 2011.

3: Merck have initiated the establishment of a second production plant in Germany to avoid this disruption to customer supplies occurring ever again. The new German plant is expected to be fully operational and delivering product in Q4'11.

4: Presently Xirallic accounts for only 1% of total number of colours used by the world's car manufacturers.

5: Only 676 OEM Car Colour Codes used contain Xirallic, with a further 1,800 formulations available to go immediately into use. This compares with a total of 50,000+ colour code formulations available to the world's car industry.

Anyone seeking validation of this data is welcomed to contact Gregg Schmidt @ Dupont Automotive Color HQ USA.

6: Maybe, and only speculation on my part, the "available body paint finishes" lists being produced in car showrooms are designed to assist sales persons to bring orders forward to achieve sales' target bonuses. Don't want the customer to delay parting with his/her cash now do we..................

We seem to be down to a choice of silver, black, white and 5 different shades of metallic grey. I don't see the problem, BMW has flourished with no other colours to choose from for years! Rolling Eyes

I like the two extremes of colours, ie. Black or White. Both look cracking in the FL2 Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Another element of the Xirallic xenophobia is that Land Rover are giving priority of "supply" to their new starlet: the cash cow Evoke. They don't want too much poor PR relating to "lack of colour choice and customer disappointment re having to change their choice of body colour" to meet the launch deadline.

So you FL2 runts are last at the Halewood feeding trough until at least Q4.
