Air con fault

Hi,
I've had my 2010 XS for just over a year now and during that time the air con has been left mostly on.
I've always thought the air con was very good - get into a hot car and it chucks out cold air very quickly.
However, with the good weather recently I've noticed that despite the air con light being on, what's coming through the vents isn't cold. Inded, the outside air is colder.
I reckon it might need regassing (although I would have expected it to last longer than a year).
Is there anything else I should try? Hitting the aircon button on and off shows no change in engine revs (I thought maybe I could hear the extra load of the compressor as it kicks in).

Anyway, it'll be going back to the dealer for them to have a look (and to fix another bit of trim that's come off) but I thought I'd run it by you guys first.

With the engine idling, I'd expect to hear a change of note when aircon cuts in. Sounds like your aircon controls have stopped working.

Sorry, my technical knowledge of aircon systems is not great (they didn't exist when I learnt about cars). Things to consider might be whether the lights come on properly on the controls, whether using the manual controls rather than auto makes any difference. If it's a fuse, then there should be a reason for it to blow, so I'd still take it to the dealer.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It seems the same whether it's on manual or auto. It's having to go back to the dealer anyway so I'll get them to look at it.
I just had to run it by someone as I've been a bit of a numpty on such things recently.
My motorbike instrument cluster had gone awfully dim recently (about 2 months ago) and I finally got round to seeing about stripping the body work off to see if I can replace the bulb. It was at that point I found that there's a brightness switch.....eejit.

No I think it's a dealer job. The only other thing I can think of doesn't apply to the FR2: I couldn't get the aircon to work on the wife's Astra. Annoying because one of the reasons she changed the car was that it stopped working on the previous Astra and the dealer couldn't fix it (electrical control problem, which is what I think you have). Anyway, she rang the dealer, and it seems the Astra aircon doesn't work when ithe controls are set to clear the windscreen. Since this is one of the main advantages of aircon it seems pretty stupid, but then it is an Astra. Doesn't apply to the FR2 though.

I was just chatting to a dude at work here who did a trip to Birmingham at the weekend in an Astra. He said that the aircon blew slightly warm!

are you using your aircon on auto ???? if so then you will need to turn the temp settings lower" thats the two round dials on the centre dash". Auto will try to keep the car at these selected settings. If the settings are higher then the aircon will switch between compresser and normal intake to keep temps set from dials.

Well

Hi superspark,

I've been turning the dials as low as they'll go. I did
Wonder if it was because of the cool air temperature (despite
The heat) that it was deciding to use the outside air
Instead of air con. What made me doubt it was the fact that
The outside air felt colder than what was coming through the
Vents.
Who knows. The dealer will have to be consulted.

Ok Stooby it was just a thought as i made that mistake in the past, didnt read the hand book lol.
Hopefuly there will be a fault code stored on the ECU for the garage to see. Theres not to many reasons why it wont work, these can range from aircon gas leak, slipping belt, blown fuse for compresser or faulty internal temp sender.
It would be good once you have it sorted to post on here what the problem was Thumbs Up

When pressing the air con button you should here a click about 2 secs afterwards.
When the air con is not on the compressor belt pulley turns but runs free, pressing the switch magntically engages the pulley to the pump shaft, this is the click you hear followed by a very slight drop in engine revs for a moment I was only wrong once and thats when I thought I was but wasnt.
