2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

Uneven tyre wear/wheel camber alignment

Guys,

I've noticed uneven tyre wear on the passenger side front and rear boots - greater wear on the outside edge (3mm vs 5.5mm). My local LR Indy said that the alignment/camber cannot be altered at the front and has contacted LR.

Has anybody else had this issue?

Based in Bristol.

The camber cannot be altered at the front but it can at the rear. They should set this first, then roll the car back and forth which will set the thrust angle. They can then set the front tracking. The front settings depend on the rear. I'm not so sure LR will talk to an Indy though. Sounds like Indy a bit out of their depth.

Thanks. The garage has said that back is no problem but the camber cannot be altered at the front and it'll need to go in to be looked at - possible ball joint at the front.

Is it unusual for just the one side to be off, consistent uneven wear on the passenger side?

Incline In the UK the roads slope down towards the kerbside (higher in the middle so that water drains off).

This is what I mean - yes, higher on centre, lower on kerbsides.
If you don't touch the steering wheel, the car tends to go towards the kerb.
So you turn just a little bit the steering wheel to go straight, right?
This tends to create an slight toe-in situation for the kerb side wheel, at least at the front wheel.
Therefore a slight wear on the outside of the tire.

Road incline makes no real difference. What it's more likely to be is an incorrect setup and mis diagnosis by the garage.

The rear needs setting first, then the front measured. This then needs adjusting so that the tracking on each wheel is within spec and the total toe still falls within the spec.

Otherwise you will get tyre wear on one particular wheel and on a flat road the steering wheel will be off centre.

Cheers guys, have decided to take the car in to a specialist alignment garage - FCM in Bristol. They do FL2's one of the dealers in Bristol.

The drivers side is fine, but both passenger side gyres are 3mm on the outside and 5.5mm on the inside.
