"Key" fob will will not open door after a month ab

I have been really pleased with my FL2 auto, (now 5500 miles, & approx 31.5 mpg, if I'm careful), much, much more so than my FL1, which I thought was the dog's b---s after my Defender.
However, a couple of things bother me; fuel consumption is nowhere near LR's estimate, and the fact that I cannot get into the car after my usual 4 weeks away (working to pay for the extra fuel) by using the RF fob. I have to scrabble around to the near side - normally very close to a wall - and use the hidden emergency key. This immediately sets off the alarm, and I have to lean in to get the fob in its docking slot as quickly as possible so as not to upset the neighbours, press the unlock dashboard key and get round to the offside door. The first time that this happened, I was hotfoot to my dealer, but they could not make any improvement when the car was connected to their computer. I haven't bothered to tell them about the same occurrence last time home - has anyone any idea what's wrong, or better still, how to fix it? Maybe 10x locking and unlocking within one minute? (Seat belt gong!)

The keyfob has a rechargable battery in it. It gets recharged when it is in the docking cradle. Perhaps the keys haven't been used enough to get a good enough charge, either way, I would have a chat with the dealer to see if they can test/replace the batteries. ______________________

UKDave - keyfob

Thanks mate, but I fail to see why. The fobs must be fully charged when the car is (eventually) handed over to you, the purchaser. On the 2nd time home, the car had done approx 4300 miles, with my keyfob being used most of that time, and the reserve one just a couple of times, to charge it up, as you rightly say. There was no problem with opening the doors on a shopping trip with my wife, who had the lesser charged keyfob.

The key fobs stay charged for ages, the old FL2 we had was driven very rarely by the wife with her key fob but that worked after weeks and weeks, possibly months?? Confused

Chrisaviss,

Perhaps posible problem could be with the RF receiver inside the car Question ______________________

Unlike some around here (carfraz?) I'm still on my first FL2, I haven't broken the first one yet ....... so my experience is 9 months & 18k miles ...

My car is used almost exclusively with one 'fob'; however I do remember to use the back up from time to time. I have not had any problems with the back up fob. Have just used the back up for first time in about 8 weeks, works fine.

I would certainly NOT assume that both fobs were fully charged at delivery. I would use fob2 for a week or so to be sure that it is charged then put it away for a few weeks, it should work, mines does under that regime.

non-entry after 1 month

Thanks for your replies.
Having had a bit of a pensee, I have a feeling that this could be to do with the "transport mode" set on the on-board computer. This was what the guys at the dealers came up with, but failed to rectify.
So I still have the same prob.

Another possibility is that of interference. Maybe due to Tetra radio systems (which use an adjacent frequency band), or other high power transmitters (airport radar etc). This had been a problem with other vehicle types. A possible solution to this problem is to use the fob as close to the receiver in the car as possible; I dont know where the receiver antenna acually is within the car - maybe it is close to the docking slot.

If the battery in the fob is low, it is probable that the signal output level is low, again using it as close as possible could help.
I wonder how long it takes for a flat battery in a fob to be recharged in the docking slot?

You worry me - is the emergency key access only on the left (UK passsenger) side - I park my FL2 about 2 inches from a wall on the left side !
