Alex thanks for the quick response.

Everytime when the fault warning appears, the Terrain Response dial is not functioning. Was this also experienced on your freelander? So I guessed Land Rover is aware of the problem and so be able to advise the dealer here of the solution. By the way, how long does it take to get the pressure solenoid valve and Haldex controller replaced?

Yes, as long as the rear axle is disabled, then the Terrain Response is disabled too.
If you try to select a different TR mode, it will say it on the little display of the instrument cluster (Terrain Response Programs disabled or something like that). Also the background lights of the little pictograms of the Terrain Response dial switch are disabled too in order to suggest that the TR is OFF.

Yes, based on the diagnose error code, the procedure clearly states which are the necessary components to be changed. Tell the dealer that together with the Special Service Message 34584 from Land Rover (SSM34584) there is a Haldex DTC guide which tells you which action needs to be taken based on the DTC (Data Trouble Code). Below is the link to the guide for your (and your dealer's if needed) information.
It contains all the error codes that the Haldex module can generate on its self diagnosis.

Again, a fault code reader is more than useful, the dealer must have it, because it can directly point you to the error and diagnose the problem and save you a lot of guessing.
My error code was P0961-62: Mechanically stuck valve.

If all pieces are available, the time for change the Haldex module and the valve is about 30 minutes.
The change itself doesn't take more than 5 minutes (two bolts to unscrew, take the old module with valve out, lubricate the new module's gasket, place the new valve on the new module, put the new module in place and screw in the bolts) but with all preparation necessary (lifting the car on eleavator and so on, test driving it afterwards, etc) it takes, generously speaking, 30 minutes.

My LR2 TD4 have now a new Haldex unit. The old unit was full of metal flakes and was replaced after 74000 km.
Error codes were same you all have described.

Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Just had a new Haldex unit installed in my 07 GS manual. The part cost was approx. £1,700 (warranty)

I had the "Traction" warning notice coming up and took it back to the dealer 3 times before the "big" fix was done.

When I originally pointed them towards the haldex sensor they dismissed this as "unlikely" although it did prompt them to focus on this area of the vehicle. Eventually they pulled in the Land Rover technical boffins who correctly diagnosed haldex failure of some sort, I don't know the precise details.

Had the "reduced traction" message a number of times. Second visit to Dealers and they have changed the pressure sensor in the Haldex unit. Will see how it goes, but they said if it does the same again they would change the pump (I assume in the haldex unit also). Warranty covering the repairs.

Having the same probs with my 07GS. Haldex was cahnged in May under warranty and started playing up again since early July. been in and out of dealer and they have now declared the Haldex has gone again !
Needless to say the car is now out of warranty and , in theory, the warranty on the repacement haldex died with
the vehicle warranty. Dealer say they are fighting my corner with LR, consumer advice advised that regardless of
the warranty I do have a "right of durability". We will see.
Intrigued by the sealant/sensor.software issue though.

Just an update on my last post. I got my car back from the dealer last night. The Haldex was replaced and still the error came up.
Threw the Techies at LR a bit !
Transpires ( and I hope they are right this time!) there is an inline filter in the TR system which is basically a
piece of gauze. There was debris in the pump choking the filter thus causing the TRS to trip, apparently there
was a similar case last year on one vehicle.

My haldex unit is found to have similar problems to Kaimaani (metal filings).

The car has 27000km and the warranty expired 5 weeks before it was diagnosed.

Has anyone had dealings with LR on this issue when (just) out of warranty?

Good news.

LR decided to replace the unit (for free) and it goes in today.

Well done Landrover!!

Just lucky I guess

5 weeks warranty left,
5 weeks before MOT test is due,
3 weeks before service is due - on mileage

Driving to the Pennines to play in the snow - Warning "ABS fault", "Traction Control fault", no ABS and only two wheel drive - could have happened after I got there on a green lane on my own.

Working in France next week so it looks as if I will have to wait a week or two to find out why it thinks it's broken. Just a guess but on the FL1 it was usually the brake switch faulty.
Steering feels lighter when in two wheel drive, which is disconcerting considering how light the steering is normally.

Serious question, has anyone tried the Hawkeye diagnosic tool?

With the warranty running out I was contemplating buying one, working on the principle that the engine seems mechanically solid, most engine electrical faults can be diagnosed with an OBD2 reader, the weakspot in my tools is something to read the transmission codes - to be honest the weakspot in the whole car seems to be the Haldex system, but then again the FL1 had a similar Achilles heel
Only smug about the steering because it's all just been replaced. Cool Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
