Australia 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

My experience with the Stauns has been good although I will make a few comments:

1. The ship preset to about 24psi I think - it was on the instruction card anyway… I tested them at the service station (deflating a tyre using them, then checking the pressure, the reinflating a few psi past that and testing the next one etc.)
2. A certain number of turns equals 3psi (again, can't recall but its on the isntructions)
3. It is possible to accidently turn the adjuster as you fit and remove them. To prevent this I used a dob of waxy adhesive which I can peel off if needs be. It just prevents inadvertant adjustment of them. You could also put a mark on it or whatever. Also a good idea to fully screw them in then count the number of turns back out so you can adjust them as needed. I always have my tyre gauge anyway.
4. As far as having to "reclaibrate" them, I doubt it. The only moving part is the needle with a seat, and a spring. I don't think they go out of tune other than by accidently adjusting them.

I often travel with my wife and 2 yr old so the less time I spend kneeling in the sand adjusting and cheking, the better. Seriously, the time it takes to deflate all four - you couldn't even make a cup of tea!

Could you please give more details on the hand winch you are using? I am looking at buying one and any advice on brand / specifications would help a lot, from anyone having experience on these.

Thanks!

My hand winch is a Bushranger brand. It has a short length of wire rope with metal hooks at each end and a simple lever action crank arm. The extension strap is the webbing type similar to a snatch strap but doesn't have the stretching capability of the snatch. I need to have the extension strap to have any hope of reaching a solid object like a tree to perform a recovery off. It's slow work and I have it only because I travel alone a lot. It takes over 40 strokes to winch a metre. I've heard that they break quite easily. A last resort only.

Picked up the Maxtracks today. For anyone interested, supercheap have them with a free tyre gauge for $268 which is the cheapest Ive seen them. Also got set of Stauns.

So that's:
Snatch Strap/shackles.
MaxTracks
Compressor
Stauns
Shovel
Army fold shovel.

I think I'll leave it at that for a week long trip to Fraser. I was going to get an exhaust jack - but I think I'll leave that for next trip and hope themaxtracks get me out of any trouble. I'm not going to be doing anything crazy so I think I'll be ok with wht I have. The above $600 odd bucks of kit has dented the savings a bit.

edit -> The Stauns I got (6-30psi) are preset to 18psi.
