United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Baltic Blue
spare wheel tyre size

Have just noticed that the steel spare wheel for my FL2 has a tyre size 235 65 R17, whilst the car is fitted with standard 16" alloys. Surely this can't be right. Any suggestions anybody? FL2 TD4 S Baltic Blue, with twin electrics and towbar, roofrails, luggage cover, spare wheel and mudflaps.

I thought the S came with an emergency repair kit not a spare wheel?

Did you buy it new/pay extra for a spare?

My car was previously run by the dealership who added the spare, a luggage area cover and rubber mats in car and cargo area, and they were left in as part of the deal. One reason I was relieved about this was that my previous car (VW Touran) was offered with no spare, and not much use if you're away towing caravans etc in remote areas. FL2 TD4 S Baltic Blue, with twin electrics and towbar, roofrails, luggage cover, spare wheel and mudflaps.

Spare wheels do not always match - some have a yellow sticker with max speed and are classed as an emergency wheel.

My GS came with a spare that is a different size than the others and I am sure it has a sticker.

Might be worth double checking with a dealer.

I would prefer correct spare given the choice with no restricted speed. Thumbs Up

Over here all FL2 models are sold with an emergency spare but the dealer allways replaces it with a spare identical with the one of the car - same alloy and tyre type.
Makes sense as I would not really want to go off-road with an emergency spare
I had to pay for it abt 143 Euro which I think is 116 pounds. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

As long as it is a FL2 (LR2) wheel then the rolling radius will be almost exactly the same, so it is not a problem to have a spare of a different size in this cae.
However it would not be the sort of thing I would expect from the dealer and so would ask them to change it for a 16" so that come tyre replacement time you can put one of your scratched or just worn out wheels as the spare and put the spare on as a new...saving you some money on the first tyre replacements.

Checed mine and it's the sama as the car's 235/65 R17 V rated.
Got a little bit of concerned after reading your post so checked just to make sure the dealers did not giveme an H one.
Did you have to pay extra for yours? I did otherwise I would have probably got the emergency solid one. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

Ordered the full sized spare with the car when new. Glad I did, have used it twice, once when towing.
Vehicles like this should be standard spec not an extra.
A chap at work has just got a new Ford S Max and he is up in arms at only getting the spray can and not even an emergency spare. If you have a blowout a can of sealant isnt going to be much use, and sods law will dictate that if you are going to be stranded it will be on a bank holiday after everywhere has shut.

The spare was included as standard but I expected a full size V rated steel wheel not an emergency wheel. Sad

I may look on Ebay for a Gs Alloy to replace spare like others have. Thumbs Up

Your spare is the same size as my GS alloys Shocked

You would think all spares would be same size if only emergency spares Confused

As more people become aware of this, perhaps the simplest thing would be to haggle with the dealer to provide a matching spare as part of the order. One day L R might get the message!

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

When I bought my SE last year I paid the extra for a full-size spare wheel, but specified (in writing) that it must be identical to the other four roadwheels. This was because I had seen an HSE at a LR Experience with a full size steel wheel that had a sticker limiting it to 50 mph.

The salesman assured me that the full size spare I was paying for was indeed an alloy like the rest - but I was less sure, having read the Forum!

When the Freelander SE arrived, sure enough it had the steel speed-limited wheel. I pointed this out to the dealer, who did then change it for an alloy wheel with an identical tyre to the rest, albeit moaning about how much it had cost him.

It just goes to show that there's more knowledge on the forum than in most showrooms! 2007 Baltic Blue SE TD4 Auto
