Cant see them ever dropping the price of fuel by 20% anyway, too much tax to lose. if fuel suddenly went out of fashion overnight they would have to come up with a tax for not buying it.

138.9 at Shell near me. Although I now use the V-Power which is 145.9. It's a bit dearer but I have definitely noticed a difference in smoothness and response as well as slight mpg benefits. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I think fuel is cheap considering where it comes from and what they do with it! In comparison with bottled water which is £2 for a litre and all they have to do is fill it up!

Even if I was not getting 75p per mile I would still think it's reasonable! Life is to short to worry about mpg!

January diesel CHF1.90 ltr. Yesterday it was CHF1.69 ltr. Swiss franc has appreciated strongly in July/Aug against all major curriences especially the Euro. And I get .05 Rappen per ltr discount so I actually pay CHF1.64 till end of September.

January €1.31 to CHF1. Today's FX rate €1.12 to CHF1. Lovely Jubbly. GBP just as bad - that makes my October trip to Blighty looking cheaper by the day.

raz - doesn't matter where it comes from, oil is priced in dollars. Brent Crude is an indicator price. We don't actually produce that much oil any more.
landy19840 - tax wise you are only allowed 35p a mile, so the other 40p is taxed. Assuming basic rate, 20%, you are paying back 8p a mile in income tax. More if you're a high earner.

Er, no you can't. Or rather you can, but you can only declare up to 35p as expenses to set against tax. The rest is income. Better get off this subject in case the Revenue is watching.
