Thinking about buying....

Been looking at the Freel2 for a while. SWMBO loves them Rolling Eyes

Just wondering what you think I could expect to get for around the £15k mark.

I would quite like the HSE with a few gadgets or even a HST ( I love the look).

What do you think?

Good time to buy. Defo go for HSE auto, alot of car for the money. And there are loads out and about, some with more miles than others. Try and get one with a warranty tho, just incase!!!

My manual averages between 9mpg and never more than 30mpg. But it depends how you drive it!! I get get paid 75p per mile driven in mine so I usually floor it everywhere!!

Presently I am getting about 35mpg local driving, better on a run. 27mpg with a 1440kg shed on the back. Recently filled up with Shell V-Power. Will try it for the next 3 or 4 tankfulls & see if it improves. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I'd defo go for the auto box; before you ask mines a manual.
Never mind the fuel consumption.
Why? Dual Mass flywheel problems which can cost almost a grand to replace.
Loads of PSA engine DMF failures to read on tinternet. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

HSE Auto is the one to go for but i dont you will find a tidy example for £15K. HST is nice but misses some of the toys from the HSE. Your best bet would be to look for an SE model with the HST bodykit fitted, they are hard to find but personally have always thought the FL2 looks best with the bodykit. SE loses out on a few goodies but is more likely to be in your budget Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Freelander 2's have dropped loads in price, there is a tidy HSE at dealer by my work for 17k on an 2008 plate!

I personally would prefer the Auto on the diesel, I have owned a Manual HSE for four years now and I just think the Auto drives alot better. We get anywhere betweeen 32mpg and 35mpg depending on circumstances. But I run 100% on V-Power Diesel so our engine sounds and runs like a dream.

I tend to ignore alot of the hear say about DMF failures etc. Mine is still perfectly good after 45000 miles and towing. When I hear my LR dealer stating that warranty work on Freelander 2 covers just 8% of there total warranty spend, I don't worry about reliability. Like all makes of cars, you get good and bad, fortunately the majority of Freelander 2's are good.

Freelander prices have not really dropped much to be honest, and with the onset of Winter starting to get into peoples minds over the next few months, they will probably go up again.

£15k will get you a decent XS/SE or an early high mileage HSE. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Agree with you there mav, but check these, dont know about the condition till you see them. around 60-80,000 miles is what you would expect to see, forget the 12000 miles per year average too. Poeple are fat and lazy and drive more now

I have a manual myself and my advice is go auto. The manual is a good car but the auto has better offroad capablities and is so much smoother to drive. Expacially on take off as the first gear is so short (becouse its a heavy car and it has no field-gears).
Don't think the mpg is affected that much going auto as I find myself forgettng to shift up a lot becouse of the quietness of the car (or the loudness of my stereo) combined with my lack of concentration due to tiredness (lots to do lately).
Not sure if the auto has a dpf so if you go manual becouse you expect a lot of stop/starts, the mpg benefit from that you'll loose due to dpf-cleaning-runs.
Another benefit of the auto is you don't need to use a handbrake to take-off on an upward hill. I've lived on a flat surface for te first 30 years of my life and now live in a more hily area. Hate the roll back, especially with a car behind me. Just can't get used to that.
