Smoke bomb

I've got a foisty sort of wet dog kind of smell coming from the air vents on initial start up of the car. Air con off or on it's just the same, it goes after a few minutes. I run the aircon 90% of the time but in the last weeks it's been off as we've been enjoying the mild Yorshire sunshine (It's rare Laughing ).

It's not the end of the world and as I say, it goes quite quickly, but done a bit of googling on the affects/symptoms of the bugs and holy Censored. Just purchased a Puratise smoke bomb (It's in a can with a click down lid that you set off with the aircon set to recirculate and max fan to all vents for 15 mins).

After a search on here and thanks to D rat/CG et al, I know where the pollen filter is (fyi LR000899) but my question to those in the know is once I've done the smoke bomb clean, should I replace the pollen filter or, on recirculate setting, is the pollen filter blanked off ? Genuine LR filter only £10 so should I change it anyway (Possible further cause of the damp smell).

Andy, I would change it anyway. You would be amazed how crapppy they get. But the bomb should sort it out. It did on mine. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Hey Andy - let me know how you get on with your bomb - mine too smelt a bit like a wet dog, I changed the filter (a bit of a fiddle but easy really) but never thought to get a cleaner!!!

I'm always a bit dubious with air fresheners as they can sometimes leave a nasty smell (I hate pine fresh magic trees!) hence i'd be interested in your smell afterwards! 'Apparently' the puratize ones are not water vapour which the very cheap versions tend to be, the water vapour ones leave all the headlining etc damp for a while.

Should get it tomorrow will let you know how I get on.

Got a pollen filter also Thumbs Up

hope your agile and bendy???

I ended up leaning into the passenger footwell lying across the passenger seat upside down as I couldn't get to the pollen filter location any other way.

As once the glove box is removed the filter cover is still masked by the metalwork and cables hidden behind the glove box area.

The plus point I found the fusebox - which I will need if I eventually go the retrofit SatNAV. 2002 Honda VFR800

Occasionally Aldi or Lidl do an aircon cleaner for a few pounds. I used one in my last car and it seemed to work ok. It got rid of the wet dog smell at least.
It's worth keeping a look out for them and buying a couple at a time as they are so cheap. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!
