Parking sensor issue - any thoughts?

I was parking in a particularly small gap last night between a Q7 and a rather expensive looking Merc when I noticed that the beep from the rear sensors kept cutting in and out.

I didn't have a clue how close I was and did it all by eye, thankfully my eye was calibrated so the front bumper of the Merc was left intact.

Any thoughts on this?

Is it a known issue?

Thanks Smile

Intimidation? The Freely is still new. Laughing

Seriously, parking sensors are good but have many flaws.
Firstly, it's brand new so a fault may be present.
Secondly, dirt or pressure washing can affect the operation, I doubt it is dirt at this stage, have you pressure washed it? If not, then don't.
Try a few, careful, tests, my guess would be a fault.

I have noticed that when I've engaged reverse and am waiting for people to walk past alongside the car, then these sensors do bleep. Maybe they take into account the width required including opening of the doors.

My sensors will bleep if I get closer than 6" to a wall Im parking against down the sides and not before, but if Im backing or head on to a wall the bleeps start at about 3ft and go continuous at 12" away, which is exactly how I would expect them to be.
Ive found that a splatted fly on the sensor can affect their operation though.

parking sensors are for guidance only and should not be totally relied on.

they are affected by many external factors such as rain, dust, etc and can sometimes give eronious signals.

unless there is a constant/consistant wrong signal I would class it as normal.
