My brakes also squeak but only when reversing downhill. Never occurs at any other time. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

That's about the only time the rear brakes have to do much work as about 80% of the braking effort goes to the front brales in normal braking. Brake squeel often accours when a foreign object such as a small bit of grit etc gets in between the disc and friction material. Its usualy harmless and will go after a while once its worn away.

lr pads have a reputation of having the lining separate from the back plate, this can cause the squeal, happened to mine recently and many others on here too At work |

Under warranty parts would not normaly be replaced unless faulty. Sounds like the discs and shoes need removing and cleaned up. If there is a rust lip build up it will need to be removed, the best tool for this would be a steel wire brush attachment that fits in a cordless drill.

I can lock the rear wheels on a dry road with my handbrake, so they arent useless if they are set up right. |
