@ Gnasher - mine wasn't the switch it was the build up of crud around the actuating plate hinges, probably limescale from water ingress.

Talking about tailgate locking, if using the tailgate switch on the keyfob, has anybody managed to lock their keys in the boot yet? I've nearly done it a couple of times and am having to train myself to put the keys in my pocket rather than throw them down in the boot while rummaging. It's either that, unlock all the doors or walk aroung with both sets of keys in my pocket. |

If I can just through into the mix a useful reason for the boot open button.

Done this in my 3 series 200 miles from home when on holiday on the south coast . Went to the boot to get some wellies for my lad, sat him up to put them on and just dropped the keys in the boot. It was as soon as I went to swing it shut that I realised my mistake doh Had to get a hire car - drive home and then drive back (all 400 miles) to get the spare set so we could carry on the family holiday!!!! Will never do it again! personally I dont really see the point - although SimonT's point is a good one... I think to make it more useful when you press the button it should open automatically knocking any out who stands near it! The only time my battery has gone flat, I think it was because I used the boot opening button and didn't re-lock afterwards. May just be a glitch on my car, but now I always double lock using the locking button. Just in case. |

I lock the car with the boot open by triggering the latch in the boot lid. That way the boot then cannot be shut without unlocking the car 1st Prog rock is cool! 2012 XS SD4 Indus Silver |

Simont, we have a tailgate lock "extension" that you mention. It's called a ventlock. |

I use my freelander as a van when Electrical contracting and find I use the boot unlock button a lot when going backwards and forwards fetching materials etc. Have nearly locked the keys in on many occasions. The only reason I do use it is that i get fed up with the wing mirrors going in and out and never remember to just fold them in before locking to stop it.
