when will it stop going wrong

I can never use my FR2 without something going wrong. Recently the Dealer has been more attentive and the service has improved and with all the hassle over the past they agreed to offer an extended warranty!
Off on my hols after the service and first of all it had some funny moments and some black smoke ! then when I was in the Pyrenees it wouldn't start ! didn't respond to the start button and left us stranded then messages started appearing relating to the steering colomb lock whilst driving on the auto-route !
called into a 4x4 specialist near Montrom and its steering lock message faults and EGR valve fault ! aaaaaahhhhhhh just when will it complete a journey without something failing ! ?
Just got to 20,000 miles !
I seriously doubt build quality !

i am really frustrated as it had never worked properly from new and only had a 5 speed auto box untill 6 months ago and has had so many faults from turbos to air con pumps to severe hesitation and continually in reduced power mode , window faults, air bag faults, wiper faults starting problems, unusable in cold weather , if I actually listed all the faults from new it would take a week ! The three faults that have occurred this week are different from previous faults and I have never completed a holiday yet without it going wrong

I can understand your frustration with everything going wrong. Mine is going back in again with more problems, which will be about 10 times now.
Starting to lose count, unfortunatly I still love the car so will keep going for now.
I keep telling myself it happens to others with other makes. I one read an artical on a rolls royce owner who had it from new and nothing but trouble from day one. Hope things pick up for you, dont give up, by the time its sorted you should have a god car

in 35 years I have never had such a troublesome car ! the nearest was a Hillman Imp in 1976 ! I had a Carlton GSi 24V for 7 years with no problems and two jaguar X type Diesels, one blew a headlamp bulb in 90k miles and the other one had a boot lock solonoid fail in120K miles.

My Wife's Fiesta TDCi's have been faultless and we have 2 C1's which haven't even had a bulb failure in 4 years

so why cant my freelander ever do 1000 miles without triggering a fault. Its even kept washed and polished and kept in a garage and driven carefully cold and allowed to spool down when hot and gets pampered !

Unfortunately once in a while a car like that appears. I had a Disco 300TDi from new that was a complete nightmare (power steering died, auto box died twice, transfer box broke, at one stage even the front doors refused to close). I finally snapped after it blew two timing belts in a fortnight. If it keeps going wrong, best solution is to bite the bullet and trade it in. Big Cry

Sounds like a proper Friday car Sad

I have had my 2010 GS Manual since April 2010 and the only problems I have suffered have been a weird stain on the dashboard top (quickly replaced under warranty), a knocking sound from the B Pillar (known fault fixed under warranty) and a bent heat shield caused by off roading (fixed under warranty).

Other than those minor niggles, I have had no problems at all (touch wood). It's really weird how some owners have no trouble and then you have nothing but problems. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Another thing, when did you buy the car and was it purchased from new?

If so, this will give you more rights to expect saitisfactory quality under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and you could try and reject the vehicle.

Before others jump in and say you don't stand a chance,I have done some studying and the best authority I can find that matches your problem is Fiat Auto Financial Services v Connelly. Sheriff Court (Scotland) so it doesn't have the same 'might' as the High Court and above but getting further advice from a solicitor who specialises in consumer law would be useful. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Oldgeezer, you have my sympathies.
Re all these faults, it is a shot in the dark but a simple bad earth could cause most of the problems you have suffered. Many of the parts replaced could have been perfectly servicable and replaced as a trial and error approach.
Many of the rally cars I come in contact with have more sophisticated electronics than any new Land Rover and bad earth is one of the most common sources of apparent component failure. All FL2's (3) Gone

I was going to suggest almost the same - is this an 'Earthing' issue.

By 'Earthing' we mean the connectivity back to the negative terminal on the battery.

There is ay least one discussion on this site about putting an additional earth lead from the battery to the automatic gearbox which gave instant improvements with the gearbox.

I'm sure a search or others can direct you exactly to the best reading. 2002 Honda VFR800
