Door mirror motor

During the last month driver side mirror started acting funny. Takes by far longer to fold or unfold compared to the passenger mirror. Some dose of WD40 helps but in a few days goes back to the 'slow' mode. It looks like something causes resistance. Is it a way I can open and clean the mechanism, or shall I ask for a new one under warranty. Of course may be for Land Rover is stll working, slower but working.

if you do search on here about wing mirrors then there is an offiial lr fix

i had the same it is the lube drying out

if remember rightly open the mirrors so they in the driving position,

then firmly push the mirror towards the front of the car it will click and go loose you have not broken it

then move the mirror back and forward 4 or five times within the free play

click the mirror into the normal positson and repeat on the other if nes ad some silicon spray in the hinge gap

Thumbs Up

Any advice on how to pry off the wing mirror cover. My track record when doing this usually results in busting the plastic! Is there a technique? - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Don't use WD-40 as a lube - it is designed to remove moisture etc...

Remove the cover - watched a video on a link from another thread - suggested starting on the mid lne join at the fron of the mirror near to the hinge. Put in a flat blade screw-driver and lever up then pull the whole cover forwards. Well it looked something like that Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

Do take note that YOM 2009 & 2010 onwards the side mirror are slightly difference the latter is bigger in dimension. As for whether WD40 helps in resolving the squeaking noise? Is a yes & the mirror didn't die on me. Here is the pictures :

No tools are required for this job, Just grip with some force & pull towards you.

For some reason my MY10 HSE has the old style one piece black mirrors, ie not the ones in the above post with the removable caps. So check before you follow the instructions! FYI my near side mirror had broken into two pieces and could not be fixed....hence a replacement Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....
