Lots and lots about this on the forum, and I have been at the end of a new rack and pump but I still get the problems you mention... despite going back to the dealer several times I am told it is a characteristic of the car

I had similar symptoms on my 2008 LR2. it turned out to be the power steering pump- replaced under warranty, no issues since. |

Had all this with my 07 SE Manual. Dealer was very helpful, replaced reservoir and back flushed which didn't make any difference. Then replaced the rack which made a minor improvement but still left with a whine. After much scratching of heads and comparison with other models in Dealers it was decided that they all whined, some more than others and mine just happened to be one of the noisier ones. Didn't mind as although 3 months out of warranty, Dealer persuaded LR to cover the cost of the new rack and labour as a goodwill gesture. Now sold the 07 SE and got an MY 11 XS manual which doesn't whine (yet). |

Well had the rack and pump replaced yesterday as per Landrover technical bulletin and can report steering like new now! Can't thank the guys at the green oval in Leeds enough as did the job at half the price the dealer wanted. Lets hope that's the end of it now! |

It seams they all hiss (especially when turning right) some more than others... I've driven about 4 now and they all did it to a degree and of those 4 2 were brand new.

It is a relief to hear you say that, since my noise is much more prominent when I turn right! 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame. |
