Short of RTFM, does anyone know what the speed range is on the HDC?

I remember the guy on the LR day saying the cruise control buttons will alter it and if my memory serves me well I think he said the slowest speed is 3mph.

Differs between manual and automatic and if Terrain Response is engaged.

In auto D/1/2/3 it varies between 6.2 mph and 3.7 mph except in sand when it varies 7.5 and 6.2 mph. In reverse it is 2.2 mph except in sand when it varies between 3.7 and 2.2 mph

In manual 1st it is 6.2 to 4.7 except sand when it is 9.5 to 6.2, in 2nd it is 9.0 mph but only in normal/grass gravel snow, in reverse it is 5.0 mph.

Speed can be varied using the + and - cruise control buttons in 0.5mph increments.

the instructor said that FL2's HDC engages in the highest speed, and then you slow it down with the CC

all other land/range rovers engage HDC at the slowest speed and you then increase with the CC

I'm slightly lairy of what the instructors say. One of the (several) annoying things about my LR experience in Luton last week was that the instructor kept comparing the vehicle I was driving with my FR2, but quite a lot of what he said about the FR2 was clearly wrong (I know my own car!). They are probably OK on the latest model, but stuff he was telling me about my 07 was just plain wrong. Suggest you find a nice safe hill and experiment!

I have found the "default" speeds too fast on numerous occasions. By the time you have finished pressing the cruise control buttons to try to slow down further, the danger zone is often over. Otherwise, it's a great feature.
