I am off to Scotland for a week by train. Its a family holiday and me and my sister and brother-in-law are going on the train whilst my mum and dad drive up. My dads Audi will be getting the long haul treatment rather than my FL2.(we need a car to get about once we are there)

Anyway, has anyone been up north by train? I hear the scenery near Berwick on Tweed is excellent.

P.S, we are travelling first class (free of charge - long story)

Not that far up north, but BonT area is quite nice place but not sure what you'll see from a train seat, bottom of a champagne glass I presume ,

The journey north of Newcastle can be very nice to see the train travels quite close to the east coast - so lots of sea visible and interesting hills and things. 2002 Honda VFR800

yes its a lovely trip. the sea around Berwick can be spectacular as mentioned, but just 8 miles north of York there are some spectacular fields of wheat on your right. even if I say so my self

St Andrews. We have been there many times. It's not that we are into golf, we just love the place. We get over to Dundee for some shopping as well.

Funnily enough, Stratstone Nottingham when sorting my car out found the right spec car for me from Stratstone Cupar which is close by. We have driven past it a number of times when we have been up there.

I've been holidaying in Scotland for many years, it is bad for your driving as the scenery is a distraction and unbeatable. Compared to England the roads are so quiet, the highlands are my favourite area but I only go in May before the midges are out in force.

Midges aren't a problem (perhaps because we are on the coast). In all the years we have been to St Andrews we have never suffered from Midges. The Highlands is another story though.

Last year we were in Banff and travelled to the Glenfiddich distillery. Awesome place and some awesome scenery there.

I purchased a nice bottle of 18 year old Glenfiddich whilst there, lovely stuff. Valley of the deer it translates as.
