We could never see the point in factory tints until we had a car with it fitted! Our Focus RS has it as standard and even with a black interior, it keeps the car much cooler inside. We too have a dog that comes everywhere with us, so keeping the car cool is absolutely vital.

Simply look around the edges of the rear window where there is a pattern of ever decreasing black dots printed on the inside of the glass. These will be invisible on the OEM tints, while the after market film will always show this as a continuous air pocket. |

disagree... whilst well fitted tints will look ok you will always see the orange lines and also the 'halo' around the edge where the black dots used to be... If you have the option get factory tints - you wont regret it Another ting to consider is insurance and also if you break the glass.. if they are factory fit most insurers wont care where as after market they might bump the premium, also if you break a facory fit tint you will get it replaces ith the right glass, if you break a window with film you will have to get it re done and there will never be any gauentee to say it will look the same as the rest! Mines after market and you can't see the dots. Depends who you get to do it I guess! |

Your right, the factory fit has no lines visable, whereas the after fit has some very faint orange ones. Had a look for the 'halo', couldn't see it. The difference to my eyes is minimal and I am a bit OCD about such things normally.

You got dark tints like factory or are they a medium tint? I think if you go lighter the efect of the dots is less.... On mine you can only just see it but there is a definite halo around the window... you have to look carefully but its there!! I can see what you mean. Today in bright sunlight I looked at them both again. On the afterfit, yes, some orange lines and a slight Halo effect, but as I've said, nothing of note with either. The afterfit is darker than the factory fit. Maybe tyhats got something to do with it.

Lots of good advice here; what did you decide to do in the end? Tigger. |

Tigger, in the end I was over-ruled by 'the boss' so no privacy glass. Just heard today that build has been put back by two months, so no delivery until 1st September. Don't know how this will affect p-ex as sales person not in until Monday. Do you think I am in a position to insist on agrred value for 1st July, or will I have to go with w reduced price? I have signed an order and paid £1000 deposit. |

That's a shame, "the boss" would have over-ruled me the other way! The build being put back by two months is a so and so! As far as your contract is concerned, it will be down to the T's & C's on the reverse of your original contract of sale. I would imagine that the dealer has covered himself for the option to adjust the valuation for trade in if circumstances change, though whether they choose to enact any such clause would be questionable. I wonder why the build has gone back by two months .... Tigger. |
