If you'd like to tell my dear lady wife her caravan is anything less than tasteful then be my guest ... be aware she is a nurse and knows how to inflict pain with minimal effort on her part! Laughing

Actually mine works out to be pretty darned accurate compared to the real figures. Computer says 35mpg, pen and paper says 34.42mpg Whistle

Thanks, the lower bhp is not a worry (I'd be loosing 20bhp over my current car) as the higher torque (I'd be gaining 52 ft/ibs) should give me the grunt I am after for towing.

I don't want an auto, been towing for a long time always with a manual and happy to stay with that.

Interesting point about the GS over the S ... i'm not great at haggling but will give it a whirl!

Just be careful with the clutch, a few problems have appeared with the clutch and reverse gear is a tad on the high side especially if your reversing on to pitch up hill, it won't take to much before it starts to smell, so if you haven't already get a mover fitted Thumbs Up

Why not go for an SD4 - it is so smooth, so quiet and so fast - you wont hold up anyone with this even with the van on the back. I am about to tow my van for the first time this weekend, having done 1000 miles now - looking forward to seeing just how good it is.

The Fl2 pulls my van extremely well (Elddis Genesis II). I agree in looking past the caravan to see what is holding everyone up, usually a farmer doing forty :-p , so many people are driving too slowly these days thinking they are saving fuel, even without the van I struggle to get into 6th around my area.

Exclamation Beware Exclamation
I'm really not happy with my11 TD4 HSE.
Make sure you have a decent drive of the car...
Points to consider:
1.) does the turbo whistle bother you?
2.) does the abs self check bother you everytime you pull away?
3.) if your gear stick twitches will that bother you (the fact it may be doing unknown damage-mine getting worse at 2k miles)?
4.) do you like driving courtesy vehicles?
5.) my mpg is 36.6-40mpg -3-6mpg better than my08 SE.
6.) my11 feels sluggish and lacklustre compared to my08 (but fuel economy makes me feel a bit better).
7.) my11 tows fine-harrowed the field the other week.
8.) reversing with 2ton load... The my08 clutch didn't enjoy.

My advice (for what is worth) go for an SD4 GS.
AND enjoy! Despite my percieved issues with 'lloyd', FL2s are phenomenally good... I could not live without mine!
Thumbs Up
