Leather seats

Hi Folks
I have a 57 plate HSE and the leather drivers seat has begun to split along a crease. Has anyone else had this problem and what was your solution. LR say it is wear and tear but a new seat at 45K is a bit off. My local garage have said they have seen three in as many weeks. They have engaged an upholsterer to replace the side panel on one car and will me see the result
PS I am 15 stone but.....

Money Savings Expert !!!!!!

Just got quoted over £400 from LR Bedford for a new seat cover !!!! & that's buying it from parts and fitting it myself! . . a real Censored as I'm only 3 weeks out of warranty.
Anyway done some thinking & came up with this. Both seat bases are identical so if you unbolt the damaged seat base (unclip the heated seat supply) & remove it you can take the seat cover off & repair on the inside with rubberized adhesive or one of the vinyl repair kits. Now so as not to put stress on the repaired section simply remove the other front seat base in the same way & swap them about. The repaired section is now on the inward facing side of the other seat & out of further harms way . . hey presto . . . just saved a fortune & only a couple of hours work! ++ a careful job of the repair should make it almost invisible.

Might be worth strengthening the section of seat cover on the undamaged base from the inside the with gaffatape or the like to extend its life, while you've got it out of the car..

Bearing in mind the problem, with thoughtful entry & exit (guess if like me you've been lifting ya bum over it carefully since discovering it!) this should last for at least another 3 years or more!

you do realise that the leather seat is just a cover that is stretched over the base, you don't need to replace the whole seat Shocked Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Believe me the price quoted was just for the seat cover & not the whole seat base !

Mines the same, surely even an upholsterer won't charge much to repair it.

If you're only 3 weeks out of warranty, have you tried getting LR to honour it anyway as a goodwill gesture? Brian
