We decided to go to our local LR dealer today to see what they have. Don't get me wrong I still love my FL2 but after nearly 4 years we thought we should look at possibly replacing it.

We arrived and found not one Freelander in the showroom, they had a demo SD4 HSE in the workshop but could not get it out. So we had a look around it.

Very nice but could not drive it as it was blocked in. So we had a look around the forcourt at the used cars. The guy we bought ours from wasnt in so we saw another guy. He said to me that my car would need to go through the workshop before he could value it as it will be five years old in December and will probably need things doing to it. What a bloody cheak! He had not even looked at it.

So after looking at 3 used HSE's, a 57 plate at £20500, an 08 plate at £22995 and an 09 plate at £26995. Price wise they was about right for a dealer. But I expressed my concern at the condition of these cars. He said they were used and that I should expect to see marks here and there.

I said what a load of Censored , my 4 1/2 year old HSE was far better condition that the 09 plate. He didnt agree until he looked at it. Apart from a few stone chips which are expected for it's age, I would go as far as to say ours is perfect.

Not one scratch, swirl mark, dent, scuff. Nothing.

I came to the conlcusion that if I decided to change it would have to be for a new one. So we are thinking that we may keep ours for another couple of years. Auto would be great but I have lived with a manual for near on four years so another one or two won't hurt.

A disapointing day to be honest.

Sounds fairly typical of a salesman to be honest (salesman in general not just cars) Meaning that no matter what you say whether you are right or wrong you will allways be wrong & he won't.
He would have p****d me off with that attitude. No excuse for that comment about must expect marks as they are used Censored How rude to say that yours needs to go through the workshop first - yes so they can find evey niggly thing to devalue it Censored (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

No, Not tried to sell it since before Christmas as after LR & the dealer actually bothered to take some time (though took a year lol) to explain characteristics etc I had no reason to part with it. Shame they didn't do this initially though, not sure if this was because they couldn't be bothered or the fact that they didn't understand their own product!! Still I got my 1st Service FOC. Thumbs Up & a £1500 voucher off the cost of a new Landrover.

If it comes for sale in the next few months it will be because work is scarce recently Evil or Very Mad (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Mav, also been looking at new motors today and came across the new jeep patriot, 22k gets you a brand new motor, with leather 2.2 Crd diesel. Very smart motor! Depends if you want to stay with a land rover tho!

Have you checked the US price of the Jeep? You appear to be getting a £12000 car for your money - US manufacturers seem to manage to double their prices somewhere in mid atlantic. Have a look at http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Jeep_Patriot/.
I had a Cherokee once - nice engine, but the car itself was cheap rubbish. I got rid of it after the brakes failed for the third time.

There's not many jeep forums cos anyone who buys a jeep is an Idiot and probably unable to read or use a computer or they are too embarrassed to admit they bought one Laughing
Mine has never been to the dealer in the 2 years I had her and done 40k miles, I;d rather have a second hand FL2 than a new Jeep any day and I bet if you put a poll up so would everyone else. Thumbs Up

My mates Jeep is 70 years old, (atleast the chassis number is anyway) its actually a ford, all the parts have the ford symbol stamped on them. At work

That was a Wileys Jeep, not a Chrysler/GM Jeep

I would not touch Jeep to be honest, the build quality is terrible compared to LR. Basically we have 3 options left.

Keep ours for the forseable future, it has been paid for since day one so owes us absolutely nothing. It's in fantastic condition and been 100% reliable. If we stick with a 4x4, then it will have ot be LR and nothing else comes close. But Mercedes are launching the new GLK in the UK in 2012, so may wait to see what that is like. It's been out in Europe for about 4 years now but not the UK.

Buy a decent estate car for towing, like a Mercedes C350 CDi.

Spend alot less and Supercharge my Astra Convertible! (This would be sooooo much cheaper than buying a new FL2)

Since having the Convertible, the Freelander gets used hardly at all in the summer. We go out as a fmily in my CLK 99% of the time, then in the summer the convertible comes out. So it makes me think even more about keeing the FL2. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
