BMW X6 = Hideous

I saw an X6 in town today and thought I shall have a rant about them on here.

Before BMW fans pounce I will add some balance here. I think RWD Beemers are good cars (except in winter obviously) and on the whole they are reliable and good quality. Also, people choose their X range for sportiness (apparently) and not for off road ability.

Why though would anyone with an ounce of sanity purchase an X6 over a Range Rover Sport for example? I accept that they do high performace versions of it but the supercharged RRS isn't exactly slow.

Also consider that all the Landy range are simply epic off road and in bad snow on normal all weather tyres. The X6 is useless and is absolutely ugly.

In this video, the FL2 could have reversed through that snow on normal tyres Laughing  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I have a funny feeling that that episode of Top Gear was probably single handedly responsible for sinking the chances of the X6 ever being taken seriously in the UK!

The X6 is not taken seriously anywhere in the world with the exception of two locations: The State of California and China. A cursory investigation into the automotive intellect of those populations will reveal why they ignore common sense.

the X6 is really just a status/fashion statement, and not for people who want driveability, etc

The standard fit Continental tyres wont help, absolutely no grip at all, 5 circumferential grooves is about all they have.

Still, even with decent tyres, the Tarquins and Ruperts who drive them will surely still cock it all up.

BMW styling, hmmm, the wheels have come off, look at the 5 GT, what is that all about?

When I was look to buy my FL2, I did look at the BMW x3
(I have always like the BMW 3 tourer and with 4 wheel drive i thought a bonus)

When talking to the sells rep in the showroom, he got very upset when I talked about the showing of it on Top gear, he said the show lost over 6 month sale because of it.

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Glad I picked the FL2 Thumbs Up

I still like the look of the X6 coupe rag top ??

A UK journo is always going to rave about a British Product (Jaguar / LandRover) and slate foreign rivals - its probably in their contract as it will have a positive effect on the economy, aka better life for themselves although I am always surprised how the opinion of ONE person can have such a profound effect on the sales of a car. I like JC a lot - doesn't mean I agree about his taste in cars!!!!

As for the X6 - I quite like it in a 'I've got lots of money and I'm going to buy the most pointless car I can kind of way' Doesn’t mean I'll ever have one! X5's are still tempting though, especially if they can prove more reliable than the RRS which would be my next car of choice when I come round to replacing the FL Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

To add my 5 pence worth.
The X6 is popular here in Norway and I see quite a few more than FL2's on the road. Strange cos the X6 costs a hell of a lot of Kroner. Its a myth that RWD BMW's are crap in winter - My last 3-series Touring (RWD with traction control) and studded tyres was the best winter/snow car (with the exception of Freely) I have owned or driven here. As mentioned many times earlier, its the tyres you have fitted for the job being done that is the most important thing and even my Freely is getting studs for next winter.
In my mind the X6 is one of the smartest BMW's so far, but I will never own one because of the price and boot space. However like Captain Worm the X5 is tempting as a future replacement, but then Land Rover has recently really crapped itself out here in Norway. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

My local Volvo dealer Bilservice in Tonsberg has stopped retailing Land Rover but will continue to do servicing for the species for the time being. Bilservice had 4-outlets in this county but It seems that since Volvo is no longer the importer and that a Danish LR company has taken over the franchise, cooperation with the dealers has been permantly destroyed. There are now just nine dealers left in the whole of Norway and the closest one to me is over 53 km away unless I take a ferry trip over the fjord. Motorpool in Oslo seems to be the main distributor for Norway now.

Remains to be seen what the future holds for LR which does not have a very good reputation here except by us owners that know better. LR should be one of the most sold and popular 4x4's here considering the driving terrain and climate, but they are not advertised as much as BMW, MB and Audi, and are overpriced when compaired with many lesser species. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Completely off topic Andy, but I was up your way last week on a Fjords cruise around the Hardangerfjord area. Beautiful country and we were very lucky with the weather but wow, so expensive, we bought two coffee's and two small pieces of cake in Bergen, 140 kroner which is about £14. Loved the fjords Thumbs Up

Glad you enjoyed, but 140 kroner would be about £15.50 at todays exchange rate Shocked - yes expensive unless you got deep pockets or earn an average Norwegian income Whistle

I agree - becoming very common... but then there must be a reason why people are buying them - I've had 3 and done over 200k in them and never had a problem Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
