Strange (non) starting problem

Car has been standing for three days, due to me being in hospital.

When attempting to start the car this evening, however, all looks well, warning lights, central display etc, but when pressing the starter, the engine spins at normal cranking speed,but only about 4 revs, then the ignition cuts out and there are two warning beeps, but with no readout on the central display.

Also, there seems to be a loud ticking coming from a relay under the glovebox.

I've done all I can think of, i.e. disconnecting the battery for 5 mins, seating all the relays and fuses, even played with the steering-wheel while cranking. Also tried my spare key to no avail.

I'm just out of LR Assist, so not a happy chappy Sad

Anyone got any ideas I can try before I ring the stealers in the morning?

Check your battery output, below a certain voltage there wont be enough to crank her over, Check the battery terminals are tight, there could be somthing loose.

Battery was the problem. Although it was cranking. Started off a bosterpack and 14v normal 14.1v under load. Strange how it went from perfect to flat in just 3 days. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

It's not unheard of - it happened to me once and there are plenty of comments on this site. Cause seems to be something preventing all the electrics from shutting down. Possibilities include not locking car, not double locking car, using the tailgate button and not double locking car afterwards, leaving wipers or lights on auto, fitting non-standard radio or towbar. Different experiences for different owners. Try to think whether you did anything unusual this time.

Batteries seem to do that nowadays, I have known batteries start first thing in the morning no problem, run the vehicle for a couple of hours, stop for fuel, try to start and not have enough in the battery to turn the engine over.

3 days without use is pretty good.................. you should take a look at the FFRR forums, some of the guys there with 2011MY cars don't even get them to stay charged overnight........................ Dealers had no idea but LR has found the batteries are substandard and are replacing them................. unfortunately production line cars have taken up the entire UK stock of the new battery so those who have forked out >£74k for their car have it sitting idle waiting for a new battery.
I now leave mine with a £12.99 Maplin solar powered battery conditioner plugged into the rear power point to keep the battery topped up when I leave the car unused for more than 5 days as a precaution. Worked OK all through the winter, even with the car covered in 10" of snow there was enough daylight in the car to keep the battery trickle charged How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Had that problem. LRA simply cleaned the battery terminals up with one of those circular wire brushes - didn't look dirty at all, and hey presto!
