Erratic Idle at Start up

Hi Guys,
I noticed over the winter and again this morning that my FL2 has an erratic idle. It gets to a point where i think its going to stall Shocked

This occurred/s after about a minute when the lights, heated front and rear windscreens are on and fans are blowing on full. I noticed this morning as i was de-icing my wifes mini Smile

I informed the dealer over the christmas period who claimed that there was nothing in the fault menu. My intention is to record it on my iphone when it occurs again and present it to the dealer 'to fix'!!!

Has anyone had the same symptoms and did you get to the bottom of it? Or does anyone have a feeling on the causes?

Many thanks,

Chris

I have had that as well, I just think its going to stall and it picks up. It has only happens when it is first started in the cold weather and there is a heavy load on the electrics and for the first couple of minutes of the journey. I haven't noticed it over the last few days. I have no idea what is causing it. FL2 HSE Sumatra black with body kit

How long does it persist once started?
If you switch on all the screen heaters, seat heaters, lights etc. you're loading the alternator (thus also the engine) quite considerably and a cold engine on tickover may struggle a little. You might want to get your glow plugs checked also. You may have one or 2 open circuit.

Andy
It happens to mine also and I have only just done 2k miles so doubt the glow plugs being the issue. It happens on very cold days, about 2/3 min after start with all options switched on (seats, heated screens etc) when the revs drop just a tad and it sounds a bit like 'hunting'. Revs back up then may drop again

Mr pinks started a thread around something similar.... http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic7246.html?highlight=

Mine's done it a couple of times also when it was cold... I put it down to the alternator doing something to charge the battery (or something like that) I'm pretty sure it's nothing to worry about! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I think you're right in regards nothing to worry about but as its under warranty ending in the next 2 months i'm desperate to resolve any and all issues Smile
Thanks for your reply.

I have also had a slightly erratic idle on startup, but only under specific conditions - such as when I start the car up cold to move it out of the garage and then stop it. When I start it again the next time the idle can be quite erratic until its warm. I put it down to the fact I stopped it when it was cold and possibly adding extra fuel to warm up?

Not ever concerned me though...

Mine happens in cold weather for a few seconds after start up, but then evens out. Dont think it's anything to worry about.

Mine did it every morning at start up during the exceptionally cold weather - been absolutely fine since the temperature has warmed up! Nothing to worry about! Thumbs Up

mine also does this.
Not the plugs as I got brand new ones. Smile
I think it's just the extra load that all the electronics is drawing combined with a cold and sluggish engine. Nothing to worry about I guess. FL2, TD4 HSE

I've got it booked in for a few weeks time Smile I'll also show them evidence of it happening and get them to log the problem for a later date if they cant find the problem.

I'll let you guys know if they find anything,
