Yes, there is a flasher unit, but unlike the old bi-metallic, it's done with electronic timer. Very unusual for them to go wrong.

Seems to be a run on electrical problems at the moment, Tailight on another thread now indicators, yet we haven't seen problems like this for a while. |

Yes, you're quite right on both counts in that it's dangerous and covered under warrenty.
