Land Rover rolls out 250,000th Freelander 2
March 28, 2011
Land Rover has marked production of the 250,000th Freelancer 2 at its Halewood plant in Merseyside, UK. The model entered production in 2007. The 250,000th unit is a 2.2-litre TD4 Diesel GS in Fuji White, destined for an owner in Scotland.
"This milestone achievement and the increasing sales for Freelander 2 highlights just how important this vehicle is, not just to Halewood but also for the regional and UK economy − around 70% of Freelanders produced at Halewood are exported overseas. I'd like to thank our flexible and highly skilled workforce and congratulate the Halewood team on this superb achievement," stated Halewood operations director Richard Else.
In the fiscal year-to-date (April 2010 – February 2011), Freelander 2 sales are up 22%. The model is offered with the choice of two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and a 2.2-litre diesel with 190hp or 150hp. The Freelander starts from £21,995 (US$35,144).
