Sluggish at 70

I have decided to put in some V-Power diesel for the next few visits to the filling station. The reason is not fuel economy based but I want to see if it will get rid of the sluggish acceleration around 70mph (I use Shell fuel save at the mo).

This does not happen every time but there have been occasions recently where I have had my foot welded to the floor in 5th gear at say 65 or 70 and the acceleration was pathetic. Trying 6th instead is also crap. Of course my aim was not to exceed 70mph by more than say 1 or 2mph Laughing but I was simply concerned by the lack of response. This is not a vehicle made for speed of course but lately its been like a sloth on mogadon.

Lower speed response is fine so I will see if V-Power helps any. Anyone else suffered this issue at any stage?

True but without getting into debates about that and would there be problems with warranty etc etc etc

Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them. Its an intermittent problem and I am not going to shell out for a remap.

Any thoughts people? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Never had that problem on either of ours Doc, always have plenty of pull from 70 upwards even in 6th gear.

What is it like accelerating from a standing start, does it pull ok below 2000rpm Question ______________________

Yes Dave its fine below 2000rpm. It is only at around 60-70mph when it feels slow. Even then it is intermittent because early last week it was nice and responsive but sloth like yesterday. No idea whether V-Power will make any difference but if the problem persists I will ask LR to take a look when it goes in for its 1st service at the end of April. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Hmmm, wonder then if it's the fuel filter or air filter that need replacing Question

If its in for service then get it added to the service sheet beforehand Thumbs Up ______________________

Even in our auto, I can accelerate pretty swiftly at 70...sorry 65 and it'll stay in 6th.

How many miles has it done Doc?

Also have you been driving something else for a few days?? Ours only feels sluggish if I've been driving my Leon FR for a while! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Mine was feeling a bit sluggish before last service but is fine now. Probably a filter on mine, although it's difficult to see how this would fail to affect the car all the time, so yours could be a bit more seriuous.

TAKE YOUR CARAVAN OF THE BACK ???? Rolling with laughter

(As Dave said) fuel filter or air filter would be my first thing to look at.

Double check the handbrake not seized on, ether sides ??

Then check for turbo pipes or not split or blowing, blocked exhaust ?? The Engine dose need to breath in as well as out,
Engine fault codes, you may have a engine sensor play up.

Let us Know what you find . Thumbs Up

Should have got an auto doc! No problems then!!

In all seriousness - at 70 in 5th or 6th you are going to be right on boost, so if your feeling sluggish it might suggest your turbo is being a bit temprimental??? Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Auto Rolling with laughter

Nothing to do with the gearbox obviously. I will take Daves advice and add the problem to the service check list. I will also consider jp and Captain Worms theory on turbo & exhaust etc.

It will be interesting to see what LR make of it. It was flying along and ultra responsive at the beginning of the week yet poor at the end of the week, moody thing! Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
