uncomfortable buffering noise

Drove my new freelander (new to me) for the first time with the window open today. The wind buffering noise was so uncomfortable it hurt my ears and I started to feel physically ill.

I have fitted sidesteps, mudflaps and roof rails. So took the flaps off and went out again but no better. Took side steps off which seemed to improve it but still too bad to have the window down. Anything above 35mph and it was really noticable. Could it be the side step brackets or is it the roof rails?

There is no notiable vibration within the cockpit.

Really need help because it is undriveable.

This happens to most larger cars, it also happens in smaller car but not as bad, the side window is approx half open or more !

And as the the car moves through the air the air has move around the car, with the window open at speed this cause (Buffering)

it's the different s in air pressure from out side the car to the inside, The car, the car roof is moving up and down at the same time Thus causing the buffering, smaller cars do it too, but the roof is smaller thus it's not so bad !!

you can help to reduce this Buffering By opening an opposite side widow slightly, or sunroof,
hope this helps Thumbs Up

A car shouldn't be driven with windows down. Increases fuel consumption and not very effective for cooling/heating. The only reson I can think of to have the window down is to have a fag! Shocked

By "fag" you mean a cigarette, right?
Sorry, but when I searched for the meaning of "fag", I've seen the other meaning too...

I had window down to see if newly fitted roof bars increased the wind noise. Never had this problem with the old freelander so if your all right i'm a much happier man Thanks.

My SD4 is bog standard with no rails, steps etc and the wind noise is ear aching Shocked my old XTrail did this but nowhere near as bad and fitting narrow wind deflectors from "Climair" cured that one.
With this one I either drive with the windows up or open more than one, LR even writes a bit about it in the handbook.

Well, if the cap fits! Wink but yes, cigarette. I see a lot of people driving with their window open, having a fag and then bunging it out. I think they are in denial and it helps if they dont use the ashtray - if fitted, I hasten to add.

It's a minging habit. I wish Morrisons and other supermarkets would ban it from anywhere near where the public is. You normally have to fight your way thro' a blue haze just to get into the place.

The other day I smelt someone smoking and he must have been over 100 yards away. I don't suppose they appreciate how much it gets up other peoples noses! Evil or Very Mad

Well finally starting to recover from how ill it may me feel after a good long night shift.

Has any one tried the climair wind deflectors on the freelander 2 and did it improve things at all. I only normally drive with the window open when at slow speed as at higher speeds its more economical to use the aircon.

Know what you need about the smell from smokers, I can even smell it if behind someone in traffic if they are smoking with the windows open. Have to put the recycle air on. Also, if go to visit my parents all my clothes go in the wash when i get home and i have to shower. They must think i'm a right scruffy c**t as i only ever go there in clothes that need the wash anyway.

I like a beer but I dont pee on people.
