Anyone know how to recharge a key that is completely dead? I know it recharges in the ignition but my spare key will not charge. Starts the vehicle and unlocks the steeering column just fine, but won't allow the use of the buttons.

Just to hijack the thread a little

In the User Manual it states the FOB should always be inserted with the buttons facing up.

Even when the buttons face down it still seems to work.

My Question: If the buttons are face down does this reduce/stop the FOB from being charged?

I guess if it does affect charging then that would mean the charging coil is located at the bottom of the dock.

Sounds like the option is to crack open the case and change the battery - as you will see from the thread linked above the rechargable battery has tags which solder to the circuit board.

It is believed that the circuit will remember your vehicle (as LR say the Fob is one time programmable) so changing the battery should be OK. Then put it in the dock to charge (a new battery should have some charge in it already).

If you don't have the skills you'll need to find a friend tech to have a go.

If your rechargable battery is completly flat then its a new battery. As with all rechargeable items from cordless tools to a new car battery, they all come with a token part charge gesture. Firstly if they were fully charged then thats a greatly incressed fire hazzard while in transit but most important of all, any new battery needs a small charge in order to start a reaction so that the battery can start the charging prosess.
Once a batteries charge has fallen below a certan percent then its lost its ability to be charged. This is why it is always best to store any rechargable device what ever it might be in a fully charged state and to keep it that way with top ups every three months or so
