remote control key fobs

A WORD OF WARNING ABOUT KEY FOBS THEY CANT BE REPROGRAMED EVER

i got myself a new nice shiny key fob for a fair price on fleabay, the seller stated that it was brand new and never used, fantastic me thinks ill buy that to replace the grubby one i generaly carry around.

booked into Guava landrover in guildford surrey (what a top bunch) to get the fob programmed i duley tip up and hand all keys in including the new one.

one cup of coffee free wifi (via iphone) and a wander round a my11 freelander around 20 min later the service guy says you sure its new to which i reply yep! i was then informed that the key fob has been programed before and cannot be changed.

i am a little Censored ed off as the seller said it had not been used and was brand new and would have to pay labour for half hours work and receive ziltch Big Cry

However Will at Guava said we have not done what you ask and so there is no charge how good is that!!

sorry its a bit long but please dont make the same mistake i have

Loads of keys on e-bay claiming they can be 'reprogrammed' - its all just a con!!! Every time I see one I feel like e-mailing the seller and telling them they are ripping people off! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I've just bought one off ebay for £31, looks brand new, but key blade has been cut. Do you think I've been done, not tried to get it programmed yet! The advert did say it would need coding to the car, not recoding!

The Key part is unique to your vehicle, it is profiled on a Key cutting machine to match the internals of your locks.
These pre-cut key bits can not be re-done to work on your vehicle.
An uncut blank should be taken with an original cut key to get the profile cut at a reputable key cutters, and I mean reputable.......will they pay for all that can go wrong with poorly cut keys? beware some traders will not want to know.
The Remote part is the part that is coded not the key and it has to be a new one not a used one.
do not purchase Remotes for the Freelander2 from anywhere exect a, Landrover agent b, reputable dealer of remotes such as an auto Locksmith etc.
Remotes on auction sites can not be programmed unless never previously programmed, get this in writing.
The above info does not apply to the original Freelander1. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

Apparently freelander keys have to coded by a laptop connected to the vehicle and the correct software.
I haven't had this done yet but do have a new key ready, but was told this by JLR engineers. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.
