Bubbling on alloy wheel under Warranty period

If you had "bubbling" on your alloy wheel, reported to the dealer whilst it was still under it's warranty period, would you expect the whole wheel to be replaced or would you be happy with a repair?

depends why its bubbled, if it was due to a stone chip or kerb i wouldn't expect anything Whistle

if there is no damage, i would expect a replacement wheel, as you can't touch up my shadow chrome wheels to get an exact match to the others, were as with sparkle silver you can normally get a good match

whether the wheel is replaced or resprayed you have a wheel that looks a lot cleaner than the other 3, so you better plan a day of cleaning and sealing Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It's not due to damage from driving, the bubbling is coming from around the hole for the valve, so almost on the inside of the wheel, not the outer edge.
I can get the "new" one muddy soon enough, so it will fit in nicely with the others Smile

I had bubbling on two of the wheels of my Disco 2 ( adventurer wheels ) and they replaced them under warranty.

about 6 months later the same thing happened again and they offered to replace them again, but I opted for another style of wheel, ( as I put it to them that this was a design/manufacture fault with this type of wheel ) and they replaced all five wheels.

The dealer it has gone to has taken 10 months to supposedly try and get hold of a wheel and this morning when it went in for, what I thought was going to be a wheel change, they've now said they can't get a wheel for it and so will be repairing it instead.
I did ask the question if I had crashed the car and damaged the wheel beyond repair whether it would have to become a 3-wheeler vehicle instead and he said he didn't know the answer to that!!

if they can't source a replacement wheel they should really give you a choice of a set of replacements first, before trying to repair it...............good customer service.

They're just the standard one's it came with. Silver, 6 spoke one's if that's any help?
Dealer are very reluctant to do anything to it and have been putting it off for over 10 months. Firstly it was booked in for last April when they said they'd repair it, then they said Land Rover had said they can't repair it, they have to change it and they would order the wheel in for me. At least 5 chase up phone calls later they finally decided they would have it in and this morning announced they still hadn't got a wheel for it and were going to repair it instead.
Originally I would have been happy with a repair I suppose, but having waited for so long for a wheel which has never actually arrived I'm now a bit miffed with them, but not quite sure how to make them replace it, if that's what LR said they should do?

see if you can obtain the part number, Normally stamped on the rear of the wheel

Then give forums sponsors LPR a call, the parts department will tell you if they have any in stock, if LR themselves have any in stock etc etc

I did this with my old LR garage, they said the part they needed wasn't in stock and I checked with Yeovil LandRover (disco3 sponsors) I was told he could get 200 for next day delivery Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Yes my thoughts exactly! Are they accountable to anyone though? Will Land Rover care this dealership has no concept of customer service whatsoever?

It does go to another dealer for any other work now, but as this was reported towards the end of the warranty period, by the time they'd faffed about with it, I was kind of stuck with them to finish the job off as they have the paperwork to say it was a fault reported whilst still under warranty.

On my old FL1 the dealer replaced 2 wheels due to bubbling. Last year I had all four replaced on a Honda CR-V before part exchanging.

The whole process from report, assess, approve and fit took less than a week in each case. I think they were hoping you would just forget the whole thing. I would be surprised if standard GS wheels aren't available as they are fitted on my 2011 model GS, that's if they are the same wheels as they were back on 2007. Andyfr
