My neighbour had his defender changed to auto atound 12 years ago and it cost him 3k then. Expensive, but as you say, you're car has had so many mods, it's a case of balancing how much it's worth to you against the cost of an auto box

Cheers guys. If it cost about £3000 then I would just do it, as this would be considerably cheaper than changing the car. I am waiting to hear back from LR Halewood to see if it is actually possible. Another point to consider is also the hassle involved with your V5, it is down as a Manual so this will need to be changed along with the Road Tax as your Emissions will change, if it can be? I was told though that the Defender is now classed as a commercial so therefore the Emissions will not be applicable for them if converting them from Manual to Auto. I think your creating a whole load of hassle for your self on this one Mav |

Don't forget to tell your insurance company if you do go ahead as it will be a modified car.

Fair play to Mav if you do this! I don't think it would be impossible tho, as for telling the dvla that would be fairly easy as mavs freelander is prob pree emissions! Also only certain models of the defender are commercial, my station wagon was most certainly classeed as a car, the tax was £430 a year! |

I know one nutter who converted his auto MX5 into a manual, loads of work but it could be done, although the fancy electronics on the FL2 will make it a lot more difficult methinks. Surely much cheaper just to trade it for a different model? |
