to be fair all this has brought out the pecimist in me and i am preparing myself and bank account for a new engine but at this point i have done nothing as its the weekend and all garages are shut and so i have a expensive four wheel ornament outside

Sounds expensive. It cost over a grand to repair an Astra I owned that lost it's cam belt. All it had done was bent some valves so it still turned over. The lack of engine movement sounds ominous to me. |

first thing i did was get the dipstick out and was oil all over it as it should also it does get checked regulary as well and so did the aa man
