Hi all ! Decided to go for the SD4 for my new 2012 Freelander!

Wondering what the actual differences are other than the design pack and 40bhp more ?

Is it just a remap or bigger turbo ? 

The main difference is the possibility of getting three penalty points and a fine for speeding.

The SD4 is so quiet with great acceleration and, with the auto box, it is too easy to reach and then exceed the speed limit before you realise it.

I was so worried when I got mine that I went out and bought a speed camera detector.

Just be very aware - I still find myself falling into this trap after 20k miles and over a year of driving mine.

plus you get a nice shiny grille instead of a dull 'i couldnt quite afford a proper one' grille!

Compared to my old TD4 you also get between 5 and 8 mpg more in an SD4!  Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

Yep, my speed awareness is next month!!!!

After attending my speed awareness course last month, I now know where I can do 70 mph on a singlecarrigae way, because it has a Central reservation. The course instructor was keen to point this out, mind you it's only 30m's long before it goes back to 60

after having a SD4 for a couple of days earlier this week

the drive is lots better than a standard auto TD4 engine, defiantly the engine for me unless its a 3.0 SDV6 in my next one

According to prior posts on the topic an SD4 is TD4 engine with a different ECU map, no other difference.

I have not stripped each type down to prove it, but others have compared part numbers.

Suffice to say it is a great engine, and IMHO works better in the Freelander than the Evoque, but the Evoque is not run in yet, the Freelander has done 6K and is freeing up nicely. It is very quick from a standing start

0 to 60 8.6 s faster than RRS 3.0 at 8.7s, just! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

It is a lovely engine but the initial throttle response needs to be improved, the throttle delay at busy roundabouts when I floor it has my arse clinched sometimes. Nothing then whoosh, she's away.

According to this post there is a differance in the Turbo, and this poster is very clued up on it

I don't know where he gets his info, but he is a man definatly in the know

I was also told by someone who should know that there is over 40 slight differences in the engine but I can't get it substantiated.
