Australia 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Lago Grey

Yep we set up this far away to discourage too many from coming Smile The ancestors purposely nicked a loaf of bread so they could get a free one way ticket. We have gas barbies so we don't start bush fires. We are having a very wet time at the moment, it will cause a lot of the undergrowth to go wild. Next summer will probably be the normal dry and bloody hot, the undergrowth just dies and becomes a tinderbox. I live in the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney...bush fire central but very scenic. I've known people from the UK to move here and not like it much but generally in the minority. Let's hope your friend has a positive experience. Plumbers are in demand.

Yep. I also have a gas BBQ which is linked up to the main house gas so I can cook all day without worry of running out Smile
I'd love to visit the Blue Mountains one day. They look great. I can imagine that there would be a lot of growth over the coming months though.
As an ex-pat myself (had the brain transplant and became a citizen a few years ago), I'm just trying to live the Aussie life and enjoy each day at a time* As long as you give it a go and not be too reserved and insular, then the Aussies will get on with you. They often don't get English humour/sarcasm though. They are also very patriotic, and so they should be, they live in a great place.

* As I type this sat outside next to the pool with a cold beer Cool

We went to Aus about 15 months ago, SWMBO has always wanted to live somewhere English speaking warm and relatively safe (not counting snakes and spiders) so a long holiday seemed a good idea.

Very different attitude to home, cost of living was about 1/3rd more than UK - Tescos has some good points.
Your right they don't get sarcasm - possibly because the ones we met were plain speaking you tend to get what you see.

Very friendly place, but I just couldn't get the way every one goes home at home time, not good for workaholics who's kids have grown up.

Anyway too old at 51 to get through immigration as an electrical engineer.

But good luck Phil, the locals are friendly, and the climate is warm, - beers fizzy and cold! Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Ah, sense of humor. Personally I haven't noticed the difference? I always feel pretty much similar in that area although maybe more Irish? An interesting observation and no doubt you guys are better placed to judge that. Not like the Germans though, they take some training to bring out their funny bone. Speaking of German, I have a Pom fellow married to a German living next door (I kid you not). They regularly recreate World War 2 for our amusement.
Congrats on the brain transplant. I hope they gave you one from the jars on the top shelf Smile

An Irishman, Englishman and a German.... Hmmm, sounds like the start of a bad joke there Laughing
But which one has the hairier armpits? Whistle

Brain transplant - I don't recall them ever replacing it! But if they did give me a "top shelf" one, then that would explain my dirty mind!

Well, I made it!
Got a bit of a dodgy tummy though...lightning and thunderstorms the other day was a surprise Laughing

Living in Chatswood but not sure if we'll stay here.

Does anyone know any Australian forums for bmws?
Still trying to understand the jist of things here, but my car is on its way. Once landed, and through customs/quarantine, does anyone know the next steps? From what I've read, it's get it registered/approved for the road, then a licence plate and insurance.
Any good websites for buying insurance? How about third party warranty?
Thanks Phil

Can't help with the questions, I am in Sydney at present, those storms were pretty cool!
Get down to the classic throttle shop, just on the North side of the bridge, car heaven, some beautiful cars in there, including an M5, maybe the guys there could help out with questions, they seemed a good bunch.

Australian cheese Confused

There was a gorgeous Buckhingam Blue SD4 on Beach Road in Rushcutters Bay yesterday, got a great pic of the colour in the sun but can't upload over here, damn iPad!

The other forums I visit have iPad apps, are there plans for this one Pinky?

Missing mine now, all alone on Manchester airport car park, the A6 all road I have here is OK but it's not got the presence of the Freely, and it's a pain keep cleaning the front screen, errant kangaroo took out the near side front bumper and the washer bottle behind it broke Sad

Had a long conversation re car detailing, they have no idea over here, Ferrari Dino in a strange purpley black colour, swirl marked to death, they have never heard of clay or sealant, wash and crappy old polish is all they get, on a car with a £150k price tag Rolling Eyes

Might move over and set up a detailing shop Whistle
