I am not saying I am right. It's always difficult to provide an accurate diagnosis without seeing it. We all are trying to be helpful. Perhaps all it's proved is take it to a professional.

Unfortunatly I used to fix these issues for a living ..

99.99% sure.

If it works on the external monitor connection then it is the screen at fault.
it is NOT the invertor.
If the bar is present when using the external monitor then the Graphics cars is at fault ( Very very very unlikley)

Fleabay has screens for most laptops, they are not that difficult to replace.

Do I search for a HP DV8000 screen or a more specific DV7173ea or as I read online, get the actual screens serial

I usually search by laptop model number, and confirm both Screen size and resolution

looks interesting - they say they will fit for an additional £10

I might just have to connect it to the Plasma TV and use that as a monitor for the time been, as I get no White line when I do

For laptop screens, there's eBay, for a new laptop there's barclaycard. Thumbs Up Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

A black car with a white stripe running up it = Shelby Freelander Shocked

Edit: and then he'd have to name it something Chicken related......maybe 'Tweety pie' although that doesn't have the same ring to it as Eleanor Rolling with laughter

If your laptop is a Pavilion DV8173ea, then the HP part number for your screen is 403796-001 and the description is:

17.0-inch WXGA+ TFT WVA bright view (BV) display panel - Features the glossy bright view (BV) technology - With 1490 x 900 resolution (up to 16.7M colors internal) (Pavilion)

Unfortunately HP can no longer supply the display but this might be useful for your to track down the right one on eBay, or just Google the part number.

I work at HP (not on PCs or printers though!) but I can try to track down the instructions to replace the screen if you need them. GONE - 2011/11 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto
