Garmin GPS

G'Day All, Not sure this will be of any interest, but for those of you with a recent Garmin GPS, they (Garmin) have introduced an accessory called 'ecoRoute HD'. This is a device which plugs into the diagnostic socket on the Freelander 2 and displays, via Bluetooth, a whole host of engine and operational data on the Garmin GPS screen such as instantaneous fuel consumption, battery condition, coolant temperatures, engine load, throttle position and so on. It is a read only device, ie you can not make any input into the on board management systems. Details are available at www.garmin.com
It's not the sort of thing I personally would leave permanently connected since it gives such a lot of information, but it is nice to know where the battery is at and so on. What happened to proper instrumentation? Hope it's of some interest. Oh, and well played!

Soon passing police cars or road side sensors will be able to read the max speed from your sat nav send you a ticket via blue tooth Laughing If that happens I will collect many tickets as the max on my sat-nav is 183 mph Shocked . My dad borrowed it and must have turned it on on the plane or hired a very fast car Shocked

it seems the days of having a dash board as we know it are numbered, One screen will do the lot. A challenge for the interior designers as I think cars with no binnacle around the steering wheel and look ridiculous. At work

Interesting plugin.

I use Garmin GPS for failing, but their navigation solutions for cars always seemed to be much inferior to TomTom or Navigon solutions!

A fellow of mine often has business partners from the USA. 5 years ago these partners were amazed by the TomTom navigation he had in his car. Theses business people bought TT solutions here in Europe because no such devices were available in the USA. (at that time, "their wordings")

At the CES Garmin showed the Streetplaner solutions for the iPhone. Let's hope this diagnostic plugin will be available for the iPhone too. Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator
