Netherlands 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Rimini Red

Thanks for the info. Just booked for service at the dealer and keep fingers crossed they find the source (and hope it won't be something expensive like gearbox/haldex/dif. ). As soon as I have info I will post it.

Hi,
I unfortunately have the same vibration as Richard1975.
Free2 TD4, Myear 2007, 90,000 km, manual.
Some months before I had an Error message: "Transmission fault, traction reduced"
The service changed a sensor in the diff. No more error message, BUT the ad-hoc vibration remained: on surfaced road, 80-90 km/h. Crude vibration thru the car, steering wheel vibrates too, power decreases. After 1 minute of stop, the failure passes off.
New tires and checked.
I have booked at LR Official Service to investigate the problem this week.
I am quite desperate to have a super LR with a more than diaappointing problem!
If you, Richard gone through the repairing pls share the experience!

Best reg,
BBela

Netherlands 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Rimini Red

Dear All,

I've had the car checked last week in combination with normal service (oil change). They agreed there was some vibration in the car and in combination with sometimes having a vibrating gear lever when pulling of in 1st gear they came to the conclusion my dual mass flywheel (DMFW) and clutch gone bad. Replacement costs approx 2000 euros. When asking if this repair would solve the wobbling/vibration and vibration in the gear lever they said it probably will but they do not guarantee.... They said they checked the dif/haldex and shafts and no abnormal play or wear was found.

I'm not a mechanic but it seems odd that a DMFW will cause vibration even when the car is out of gear while driving 120 km/h and the engines revs are down to approx 800 rpm. I even tried whether the vibration would stay when turning off the engine while driving approx 130 km/h or not. The vibration stayed so in my opinion it is caused definately not by the DMFW while this one should not rotate at all when the engine is not running???? (can anybody confirm this???) I also do not feel any vibration in the clutch when pulling of in 1st gear. In my opinion the clutch is functioning fine, no slip or vibration whatsoever. I have more the feeling that one of the engine mounts is loose or broken and probably some joint or wheel bearing is not 100% anymore. The vibration in the gear lever in 1st gear could probably caused by excessive tilting of the engine due to a broken engine mount??

The intermitting vibration while driving at higher speeds is exactly like having a stone or something in a tire. It seems to me it's wheel rev related and not engine rev related.

I cannot imagine that nobody can tell the exact cause of vibration while driving and gear lever judder (in 1st gear only and not always the case and this is engine rev related). The vibration from the wheels seems to be more noticeable after driving sometime like 15 minutes and the car (or bad bearings or something simular) has warmed up.

As the dealer cannot guarantee the problem is solved with replacing the DMFW and clutch I'm not willing to pay 2000 euros at this moment as you can imagine.

Best regards,
Richard
