Bluetooth and iPhone 3GS

The quality of calls on my iPhone when using Bluetooth in the car (connects no probs) is pretty awful. Is this a problem with the car's Bluetooth, the 3GS generally or my specific iPhone?

I've no other Bt phone I can check it out with. Freelander 2 SD4 HSE - Ipanema Sand - MD co-pilot - Springer Spaniel in boot - Swift Challenger on the back!

3GS works fine in my FL2 MY 2013 TD4 XS Manual, Ipanema Sand. Cold Climate Pack, Spare Wheel, Side Mouldings, Armrest Pack, Rear Camera, Detachable Tow Bar, Spoiler.
Gone. My 2011 TD4 GS Manual, Cold Climate Pack, Front Sensors, Spare Wheel, Side Mouldings.
