Opinions please- had brake pads done and have a problem

Hi All,

My LR2 needed front pads and rotors. As you all know, dealer cost to perform the work way overpriced so I shopped around and contemplated doing the work myself.

Long story short, found an independent shop to do the work and they said they only use genuine parts and highly recommend OEM only for brake components. Price was not as cheap as buying aftermarket parts and doing it myself, but was considerably less than cost at dealer ( saved on labour)

Here's the problem, I was charged the same price as the dealer would charge for the pads and I assumed that meant OEM LR parts. Instead they installed Textar pads. All my research shows that Textar quality is fine but that the price is consideraly less than OEM.

They have offered to switch out to Jurid, which is they say the manufacturer of the OEM pads. I think I should be asking for OEM LR pads in LR packaging or a partial refund on the Textar pads.

Would appreciate comments and opinions.

too be honest I really don't think there is much difference between these pads (apart from branding), so I would not worry about it, or go to the trouble of having them changed again.

how many miles did you get from the originals ?

The fact you ask for OEM parts and they put others on is bad enough but by not using OEM then LR could say that this contributed to a fault if one occurs Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Brakes aren't covered by warranty. So there shouldn't be an issue from LR about this.

but parts of the braking system are covered on warranty, and by not using OEM, then LR could try to wriggle out IF there was such a claim Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I only went to the service centre because they said they only use OEM parts. As some of you mentioned, my concerns are for the warranty coverage with the fact that I paid for OEM parts, but got OEM equivalent parts.

The pads may be the same quality and offer the same performance, but I don't believe I got what I paid for. Everywhere I have looked OEM parts cost more than their aftermarket equivalents.

I am going to go for having the pads replaced as long as they LR parts and come in LR packaging.

Thanks for your comments

I think the Trades discription act will apply here. You asked for genuine LR parts and did not get what you asked for.
You are well with in your rights to ask them to fit what you asked for or ask for your money back.
At the end of the day you have paid for something you did not ask for regardless of weather or not there fit for the job.
If their not prepaired to supply and fit what you asked for then tell them you will seek legal advice as you are not happy with what they have fitted or you will have the correct ones fitted elswhere and send them the bill Thumbs Up

I changed my front discs and pads in July of this year, as the originals had warped baddly. Got price of dealer parts, then settled on Pagid discs and pads. All purchased for just under £97.00 as opposed to £170.00 from dealer. Fitted them myself, as car was out of warranty(dealer would not honour a claim while in warranty to do them) I could not recommend them enough, braking is sharp and precise, and much better than the originals were before the warping started.
