Engine Power Problems?

I am experiencing problems (most noticably) in 4th, 5th and 6th gears - when trying to accelerate from about 2,000 rpm - the engine does speed up - the revs increase, but the power does not appear to be getting to the wheels. After 2 -3 seconds the revs then drop as the power 'gets' through - and the car then accelerates 'as normal'. The sensation is like an intermitent slipping clutch. Anyone any ideas what this could be?

If the rev increase and the speed does not then something must be slipping, so its either the wheels are spinning, or the clutch is slipping, only you can tell which Thumbs Up

Looks like a trip to the dealers, but book a test drive with a mechanic, so you can demonstrate the problem.

Chris.

could be something to do with the torque converter if it a auto

Definatly a trip to the dealers

I would call LR assist and get them out to look to on the grounds "you might not make it to the dealer etc etc" at least you would get the courtesy car if the dealer doesn't have one too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Never leave a car with a dealer, and report a fault, unless its an obvious problem, alwasy take the mechanic out and prove the fault, it's much harder for the dealer to pull the "No Fault Found" routine.

Had clutch judder with a VW recently, and all the dealer would say was "No Fault Found", took the mechanic out, and next thing a new flywheel was on order (the second in 20k miles).

I have exactly the same problem. The problem is also using cruise contol. The inspector LR tried my car and decided to replace the cruise control kit and the clutch.
I will tell everyone if the problem is solved with this kind of technical assistance.
Greetings, Alex

Car departed on back of lorry to dealer - suspected clutch problems (after 17000 miles!). Have to say LR Assist has been very good so far. Will update when verdict is known!

Much debate with dealer - who had the car for a week - and "couldn't replicate the fault". Car's back with me - and has not shown the fault since. No doubt, having said that, it will start again soon!
Interesting to note the Alex has had his clutch replaced - and the problem is gone. Will update further!

Surely if it was a slipping clutch you would be able to smell it getting hot.
I don't think much of the clutch in the FL2 as they start to burn with the slightest of clutch slip when needing to crawl along very slowly. Apparently the dual mass flywheel is to blame. Why did LR ever fit them?

You would be upset without one. they stop a lot of diesel rattle and the shakey gear stick thing that used to affect diesels.
On my mk2 diesel golf the cassettes used to rattle out of the player while stopped at traffic lights, So diesels have been greatly improved by things like dual mass flywheels.

On my recent southern trip I got stuck in terrible stop/start traffic for a few hours yet the only clutch problem I found was my left leg, it got tired from all the pedal pressing Neutral At work

Not strictly true, dual mass flywheels are a cheaper way of getting a heavier flywheel in a smaller space, so a more reliable, but more expensive flywheel would be an option that could perform the same task.

My slipping problem began at 24000 miles and only occurs at 1950 to 2050 rpm when in 4th 5th or 6th gear. The engine surges to 2250 rpm then imediately returns to normal. There is no burning smell it happens very intermittently, is not related to whether the engine/gearbox are ot or cold and happens as often solo as towing. I get the problem about once a week and it will do it 5 to 10 times in a row anf ten nothing for a further week.If itdes it when the cruise control is on the the cruise control automatically cancells itself, exactly as it would if the clutch pedal was pressed. To replicate the problem ,dip the clutch when on cruise control and yu will see what we mean. I believe it will become a common problem when more cars have done more miles. I just hope my clutch doesn't go completely when towing over the Alps this Summer Shocked
