Some twit has just driven head on into my father-in-laws FL2

Hi,
I've received a call from my father-in-law around 4pm to say that someone has driven into his FL2 XS 09 plate - head on!

Basically the car was parked outside his house and an old guy in a Corsa simply ran into the front of the car of it. The result was he hit the drivers side front end Big Cry but pushed the 4x4 back 3 metres and into his stone wall Big Cry

He's worried about the vehicle NOT being written off. Can anyone shed any light on the situation? I know you'll have to see the damage and the insurance company will investigate etc. but is there any percentage of damage to cost before the insurance company calls it a day and pays out?

Any advice i can relay to ensure the vehicle doesn't get returned?

Don't get em wrong this WAS the idea vehicle for him and his wife but now..... looking at the pics you'll see.

Thanks for any advice i can relay,

Chris

Hi what a bummer, insurance companys will repair anything upto 3/4 of the value of the car. Anything above that is written off. its hard to judge from the phots but i think it will be close one way or the other. Hope that helps a little Thumbs Up

I would think that they will wright it off. You can tell the insurance company you don't want it back, if its a close one this might make the difference.

I think my mother in law is searching for a new one as we type - She's adamant she ain't having it back Smile Years and years ago Conwy Land Rover had their Disco fall off the ramps... they repaired it FOC but it as never the same. I guess the same will be true with this one especially when you've seen the damage.

Thanks for your help guys,

Hope there is a kink in the roof, that will help in having it written off. The 3/4 rule does not always apply, car can be classed as an uneconomical repair. The cost of repair to insurance co. may be more than payout to you less what the car is worth for salvage. It is not then declared as "written off" just a Cat C or even D.
Agree I would not want to have it back. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

geeeees a Corsa did all that????????? How did the Corsa fair??

Personally I think your chances are good for it being written off, front AND rear damage and like you say that bent rear wheel could have caused no end of damage. Best bet would be to speak to your insurers to gauge their opinion, even have a word with the garage / compound where its gone so they can nudge the assessor in the right direction when he arrives. (even get the hammer to it before they arrive!!) Whistle

I had an accident in a Vectra some years ago, front and rear damage together with knackered suspension, car was valued at about £18,000 and cost for repair was estimated at £9,000. I told the insurers I wouldnt be happy driving it if it was fixed and in the end they wrote if off.

Your only drawback is the age of the car and whether or not is has low mileage. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

Exact same thing happened to me, in my old sportage and they write it off, though somebody did fix it and put it back on the road

What Censored me off was the fact the police were uninterested that somebody actually drive into a parked car Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'd say that's a write off, someone an FL1 ploughed intot the front of ours last winter and caused 4 grand in damage, just to front bumpers, wings and lights, nothing structural which yours has plenty of damage.

Sorry to hear about it! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Who or what sort of driver hits a parked car Question Must be a drunk, a half blind, or some old codger that should not be on the road at all Shocked . Maybe even a combination of all these Shocked - and the police are not interested Question

Gees, the offender should at least loose his driving licence for ever Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Double Censored Big Cry
You could maybe try whybuyanycar.com for an estimated value, a quick look on auto trader says a dealer sell price of about £21k (there will be a sizable difference I guess to this and the actual market value)...for the 75% rule you need the repairs to be more than £15750 +/-. But I think druand makes a very good point.

Looks repairable to me. The front end is mainly body and the back end indpendent suspenion has taken a bash.

My biggest advice is to get it repaired by a Land Rover body shop. Ignore the insurance compnay trying to get your father to use one of their "approved specialists". The insured can use whoever he likes and most LR shops havbe loan cars as well. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
