LR FL2 holding their money

Off-roaders top residual charts – GLASS’S

Off road vehicles hold their values better than most other vehicles, according to research carried out by Glass’s Guide.

It said 4x4s took seven of the top 10 places when it comes to residual values after three years and 37,000 miles.

“This is a remarkable transformation of fortunes. Only 2 years ago their anti-green credentials, coupled with high fuel prices and the threat of a massive hike in Vehicle Excise Duty almost threatened many of these cars with residual value extinction,” said Glass’s Guide managing editor Adrian Rushmore.

Rushmore said the bad weather in 2010 helped the 4×4 sector retain their values.

But it is the Volkswagen Tiguan mini-MPV that is the residual car king of the used car trade according to Glass’s, retaining 68 per cent of its original new car price after tree years.

In number two slot is the Mini 1.6 Cooper, 3 door which retains 65.9 per cent of its value, followed by the Honda CR-V 2.2 CTDi SE 5 door on 64.3 per cent.

The Land Rover Freelander 2 GS Td4 auto and the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI Quattro S Line Tip are in joint 4th place.

Also in the Top 10 are the Land Rover Discovery, Audi TT Coupe, Nissan Qashqai, Land Rover Range Rover and Audi A5. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

This is interesting Nick.

Back in August 2007, I paid £25995 for my December 2006 56 plate HSE TD4 with 10400 miles on the clock.

Here we are, 3 years and 3 months later, with 41000 miles on it and I was offered in PX £17400 just 2 weeks ago. They advised me privately I would get around £18500 to £19000 for it. I know I am very anal with the way I look after mine, I would almost go as far as to say it is in perfect condition. It has a few stone chips but not one scratch, scuff, pin dent or swirl mark. The interior is again about as perfect as you can get, even against cars much younger than ours.

I asked how come it had held it's price so well, and the dealer told me that back in 2007 when the first Freelander 2's hit the 2nd hand market, they didn't really know how to price them, and used the residual values of the Freelander 1 as a guide. The FL2 has obviously kept better residuals that the FL1, and this along with the bad winter last year and the expected bad weather this yearshould ensure decent resale values.

It turns out now, that if I was to do the same again and buy a 9 month old HSE, your looking at £29995! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

V busy at the moment as customers are are actually telling us that they are 'getting in there first' before everyone rushes to get a 4x4 for the winter.

Dropped down to just 4 used cars mid-month. D4 totally sold out to Feb, 1 RR till Jan, less than 10 FL2 before Feb, sold out of RRS until just after Christmas, 15 orders for March already.

VAT offer is certainly helping, as is having a pretty fresh model line-up.

James Thumbs Up

England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

There's a report in this weeks Autocar magazine with the headline 'Freelander sellers set for a profitable winter' which goes on about how it's the 4x4 to have this winter. They reckon that a 57 plate GS with 60k miles that is on sale at £11,723 is about £4000 under book according to Glass's Shocked and that this will rise if it's a bad winter !!

Hands up all those hoping for snow this weekend Thumbs Up
