My Freelander 2 making passsengers feel sick!!

Sad

Hi folks.

Been a long time reader but finally had to register and make my own threead after my dealer hit a wall with diagnositc.

Here's the story.

I'v had my Freelander 2 (Td4) since new and it was registerd in 2009.

I'v always felt the suspension to be too soft and that much so that it affects passengers in the car who complain of feeling sick.

Now iv had it checked numerous times at my dealer and they can't fault the car. They've checked all the major components underneath and even swapped tyres around. My car has only done 10000 miles but as i said i''v always felt since i got it it was too "bouncy".

Anyone else ever felt anything similar? I'v drove another Freelander 2 of similar spec and i can personally feel a difference but been told it's just the same as my car.

The best way i could describe the fault is when i hit a bump instead of going up and down i feel like the car goes side to side.

Please help as i may have to get rid of the car if i cant get it fixed. Crying or Very sad

What car did you have before and was it a saloon with stiff suspension??? I've come from a BMW 330i M sport (really stiff suspension) and felt exactly the same when I first got in the FL.. My wife also felt worse, although this is nothing to go by as she is the only person who I know gets car sick driving!!! At one point I started to think I need to swap it for, dare I say it an X3 or maybe an X5!

But over time I think my wife and I are now getting used to it and I am definitely finding a style of driving that does not rock and roll as much Exclamation ... I think on the main part through we’re just getting used to it.

If you are constantly rocking what you describe could be bad shocks but if the dealer has had a look then I suspect it might be just the car Question

Another thing to check is the aircon also - after a few years if they have not been cleaned it can give a fairly iffy smell that might make someone feel more sick than normal. Might be worth getting the dealer to do a proper aircon service for you?

Either way I would persevere a bit before deciding to ditch it – I’m about two months in of owning one and I am beginning to love it Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Maybe you have one with American suspension as most American cars are like sitting on a sofa with coil springs lol.

Well EV I will see tomorrow if, I quote: "Dealers never seem to be able to find a fault that is not staring at them in the face" as her ladyship's FL2 TD4-e Newport goes in for its first annual service. I have of course supplied a detailed report of all that has transpired during the first 12mths of ownership and issues related therein.

lrdealer, I had a car some years ago that had small bulge in the tread of one of the rear tyres. This made me feel sick also. Our local garage found it. The mechanic just jacked each wheel up in turn so it just cleared the ground, then he spun it by hand.
He did this until he found the faulty tyre. It kept touching the floor in the same place on the tyre when spun.

I know it sounds harsh but that is what has happened everytime I have taken mine in. One of the only things they were able to do was fix the rattly passenger side step but that was easy because it rattled! I'm refering mainly to my phone system that one one occasion I was talking to the service advisor on the car system & it was so bad I said to him I will call on the landline when I get indoors to which he agreed as he could hardly hear me. When it went in nothing was wrong never is. I did a test call on Sunday when my brother in law popped round & he said that is awfall! but the dealer can't fault it
Then there is the strange hesitation when changing gears but no problem until after 9 months of ownership the service manager of one place came out with me & said - Oh that is a characteristic of the manual, they all do it so I could only take from that that the other dealers & LR themselves don't even know characteristics of their own cars!! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Thanks for the replies people.

I'v had it back into the dealer and the manager feels it isnt quite right but is at a loss as are his technicians to what may be causing it.

I can't understand how one person can agree with me but someone else can say that there is nothing wrong with my car.

With regards to a possible tyre problem. These have been checked and been passed as OK. Plus as i said its been pretty much like this from new.

Im pretty gutted and was pining my hopes on getting some information from this forum to try and give me some ideas i could tell my dealer. Embarassed

We have moved from a stiff A4 cab to the fl2 our first 4x4 and not our last, we love it. We have the XS in manual no problem with the gear change and the bluetooth is excellent! my wife and my iphone all connect, sync and the speaker is realy clear. Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Good day lrdealer
My 2007 td4 manual has always " moved around "a little at the rear, including the side to side bit which you mention, but it has never made passengers feel sick.
If you check the posts there is mention of a tech bulletin regarding the rear suspension moving around when going over bumps resulting in the top of the springs rubbing on the top bush and creating a squeaking noise and wear. Could be worth getting them to check this for you.
Good luck
