I've done a bit of trawling through the site but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have just ordered a full set of discs and pads with a view to doing the job when the weather warms up a bit. Is there a "how too" on this site that shows pics for doing the fronts and rears? I believe it should be easy, but just want to make sure I don't miss anything.

With that in mind, what are the options for getting workshop manuals? Nothing from Haynes and TOPix keep there is a subscription area. Any other options?

It's relatively straightforward, but you'll need a big hammer and elbow grease to get the discs off if they are "stuck", perhaps a drill to get the retaining screw out, and a clamp to gently push the pistons back to get the new pads in.

My how to is along these lines for the fronts

Remove calipers, plenty of force needed.

Remove pad retainers clips/anti rattle shims with screwdriver and then pads.

Bungee up the caliper out of the way to take weight of brake hose.

Undo or drill out disc retainer screw (mine were seized).

Lever disc off with a big hammer. rotate disc slightly with each blow for evenness

Clean everything before reassembly.

Fit new pads after pushing back the pistons, refit retainer clips

Push on new disc with a bit of copper ease (so it can come off again more easily).

Refit caliper and tighten everything up

Job done.

Was surprised how much force was needed to get the discs off but took some guidance from a landrover mechanic and a big hammer was recommended to gently persuade it off rotating the disc before each blow to make it come off evenly. hope this helps, I'm not a mechanic just a diyer.

I haven't done the rears yet, paid Quick fit to do them a couple of years ago and vowed never to pay their prices again.

I like the idea of using the 'adjusting hammer'. As I saw on another forum somewhere "If replacement is the reverse of removal, how do I reverse hitting it with a hammer"

Yes yes I'm renaming all of mine now. What a great turn of phrase!!!

The use of a hammer "persuation stick" will almost certainly needed to be used as the discs will be rusted on lol. I found it to be very easy and in the end you will save yourself a shed load of cash by not taking it to the stealers.
