Had a look at the Freel today

Well today I became what I always used to hate when I worked in garages, I went for a look around a dealership purely to poke around a car that I have no intention of buying for at least 18 months! Not that it bothered the good folks at Stratstone who didn't bother to speak to me anyway during my time in the showroom or whilst I was poking around on the forecourt so I guess we're even Twisted Evil

On the plus side, I got to sit in an XS and an HSE, both very, very nice machines. I have to be honest I preferred the seats in the XS but would like them with the armrests. Felt solid, was plenty big enough inside, and very pretty in a stocky way on the outside.

I also looked at a Disco 4 which was very, very nice, but this has actually done me a favour as I know that I couldn't buy a Disco 3 after seeing how different the dashboard is on the 4.

On the negative side, as I cannot hope to buy a new one in 18 months time this means it'll be used, and as the older XS models don't have nav I'm thoroughly restricted to the HSE which limits choices slightly.

Quite looking forward to getting my hands on one now. Very Happy Blue

Hi Blue which Stratstone’s was it, I had a good experience with the one at Stockton, Had a bit of banter with the sales guy and ended up with a good deal, well looked after from my first visit through to driving it off the dealership. Just a pity the service side of things lets them down.

Was the one in Newcastle, Stratstone is very hit and miss in my experience, today they missed.

At least I can get sales staff to talk to me sometimes now when I pull up in the Z4, when I had my Mondeo I was outright ignored whenever I went near a dealership, I'm sure the salesman that sold me the Z4 only spoke to me as I'd booked in advance on the phone! I spent ages looking around it and the guy on the forecourt standing 10 feet away totally ignored me, it sure made the purchase more enjoyable for me when he got to see me hand the deposit over to someone else Rolling with laughter Blue

If you want a used one with Sat Nav then look for an SE. It was phased out as a model in 2009? I think.

There are quite a few after-market sat navs that fit the hole quite nicely. I wouldn't make my mind up just on that one thing mate. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

I always really like the OEM look though, even down to the LR logos etc.

What's the main recommendation on the forum then for aftermarket sat navs? Any that look suitably OEM? Blue

Do a search buddy there's plenty on here. Usually you can add LR logos as well, I've certainly got them on my Garmin Nuvi, check out my gallery. We Don't Care About Pot Holes !!

Great, from the looks of things the SE may have dropped a little further down the price range by the time I come to buy! Thumbs Up Blue

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Zermatt Silver

Blue, I wouldn't let the satnav get in the way of a good deal. My XS has an after market Garmin Nuvi 1490T fitted in the dash hole and it fits perfect, large screen and all. There are plenty of threads on the forum showing how to both put a LR logo on the start up screen and how to wire the device up through the back. A major plus of aftermarket satnav is the much lower update socts for mapping and such. Anyway enjoy your vehicle when you get it I still love mine despite the fuel consumption! Ralph

Well it's definitely an option that I hadn't thought of!

Will be a while before I get my paws on one yet anyway so I'm sure that prices of HSE will drop a little further by then Very Happy Blue
