This is one function that has worked without fault from day one! It wont engage when the revs are less than about 1200-1300, which I find a bit annoying, but other than that the cruise works faultlessly all the time, and I use it a lot.

Hope this helps ...

No problem with mine which I use regularly to avoid speed cameras. I believe 50 mph is about the slowest it will engage.

Provided you are in a suitable gear (i.e. revs over 1250 or so) cruise control is OK on mine down to about 26 mph. The only time it has "dropped out" is if I take over the throttle pedal for more than a minute, such as when passing slower cars on the motorway. It obviously sulks `cause you won`t let it drive Laughing Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Cruise will go as low as 30mph as long as you are in a lower gear and not labouring the engine

Intermittent cruise control. My SD4 has also developed a problem with the cruise control. Can anyone tell me which fuse it takes its power through? It sometimes is not available at all. If I stop, turn off ignition and restart that sometimes brings it back but not always. I am trying to engage it at motorway speeds so this is not operator error. Has been fine for two years as I use it nearly every time I drive the car. Thanks![/u] As far as I can determine, all other functions on the car are working fine.

I would tend to think the actual button needs replacing.

Thank you AD21....
I had thought of that but have not tried to dismantle it yet. However, this evening whist driving home and trying to get it to work I drove over a rough patch in the road ( more common than the smooth patches in this part of Italy!) and it then let me turn it on. So, possibly the rocker switch as you suggest but possibly a loose contact somewhere. Anybody else suffered from this?

I regularly use mine at 30mph. It's designed to drop out if you override it for about a minute.

Still love that altimeter readout which I found here to other day!

I only use cruise control on the motorway when traffic allows.

I've never thought of using it at 30mph ??

From the Manual!

Note:
Cruise control can only be engaged when
the appropriate gear has been selected at
speeds in excess of
30 km/h (18 mph)

Probably not the same thing at all but the cruise control on my old BMW 5 suddenly stopped working on the M% once for no obvious reason. Later I got warnings about traction control also not working - it turned out to be an ABS sensor on one of the wheels playing up, - the wire connection had corroded away if I remember correctly

I imagine though that on the Freelander theere would be plenty of other dire warning signs and symptoms if that happened?

No but I have had the opposite - hit a very rough patch of road and the cruise control dropped out. Never had any other problem with it though, and I use it almost all the time (good for 30mph speed limits!) Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

One thing which would be good if LR added, is a speed limiter, have it along with Cruise Control at work, ideal for in town driving, set it to 30mph and forget it, it can be over ridden by pressing the accelerator a bit harder but very useful.
